No. 74 St. John’s Stays Undefeated With 4-3 Victory against Northern Arizona

The Johnnies are off to their best start in program history at 14-0
TUCSON, ARIZ. – The St. John's men's tennis team earned a 4-3 triumph over Northern Arizona on Thursday in Tucson, Ariz., remaining unbeaten on the season.
The Johnnies (14-0, 3-0 BIG EAST), off to their best start in program history, took the team doubles point before earning three victories in solo play to take the win in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
In doubles action, Max Amling and Armando Sotelo kicked things off with a 6-2 triumph on the No. 1 court over Jakub Prachar and Jakub Volesky. After the Jackrabbits evened the score on the No. 2 court, Adam Groves and Ryota Kaneda clinched the point with a 6-3 win against Takimi Katsuda and Semen Agynskyy, improving their record as a pair this season to 12-0.
In singles action, Northern Arizona evened the score on the No. 1 court before taking its first lead after winning at No. 5 singles. Carl Gustavsson brought the Johnnies back level with a straight-set victory on the No. 2 court over Piotr Galus, 6-2, 6-4. On the No. 4 court, Leonardo Mileikowsky earned a gritty 6-1, 7-6 triumph against Volesky, putting the Red Storm back in front, 3-2. After making it 3-3 on the No. 6 court, Ignacio Vinas toughed out a three-set thriller at No. 3 singles against Agynskyy, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, giving St. John's its 14th straight victory to begin the season.
The Johnnies will return to action tomorrow when it takes on No. 8 Arizona in a matchup of ITA top-75 schools. First serve from Tucson, Ariz., is set for noon.
