No. 1 St. John’s Advances to BIG EAST Championship Match With 4-1 Victory over No. 5 Georgetown

CAYCE, S.C. – The No. 1 St. John's men's tennis team won its second match in as many days, taking down No. 5 Georgetown on Saturday in the BIG EAST Semifinals in Cayce, S.C.
With the victory, the Red Storm punches its ticket to the conference championship match for the sixth straight season, where it will face No. 2 Creighton on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Sunday's title contest will be streamed live on the BEDN on FloSports with Johnny Gadamowitz on the call. Live scoring will be available on RedStormSports.com.
St. John's improves to 24-2 this season with Saturday's semifinal triumph and has won nine straight matches.
After dropping the team point on Saturday afternoon at the Cayce Fitness and Tennis Center, St. John's rallied to sweep singles play, defeating the Hoyas for the second time this season.
Adam Groves and Ryota Kaneda kicked off partner action with a 6-0 shutout over Burke Pablo and James O'Sullivan, before Georgetown took matches on the No. 1 and 2 courts to clinch the team point.
In singles play, Carl Gustavsson took down Arthur O'Sullivan 6-2, 7-5 on the No. 2 court and Ignacio Vinas earned a 6-2, 6-3 decision against Akira Morgenstern at the third position to put the Red Storm in front, 2-1.
Leonardo Mileikowsky defeated Sahil Morey in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4 before Raicevic downed Adhvyte Sharma, 6-1, 6-3, at the fifth flight to wrap up the come-from-behind victory for the Red Storm.
The Johnnies and Blue Jays met on Feb. 15 in Omaha, Neb., resulting in a 4-3 win for St. John's. Sunday will be the fourth all-time meeting between the two programs and the first time the schools have faced off in the BIG EAST Tournament.
