The Red Storm extends its win streak to four games by taking down the Seahawks in six innings
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team (27-10-1) rattled off its fourth consecutive win by toppling Wagner, 9-0, in six innings on Wednesday afternoon in Staten Island, N.Y.
Loreley Francia earned her team-leading 14th win inside the circle, shutting out the Seahawks across the six innings. The junior notched 10 strikeouts and allowed just two hits and a walk on the afternoon. Francia now holds a 1.46 ERA and has punched out 134 batters in 110.1 innings this year.
London Jarrard paced the Red Storm offense with two hits including her seventh home run of the season with a two-run shot in the sixth inning. Jarrard leads the squad with a .422 batting average and 40 RBIs in 2025.
Celia Macari brought home three runs in the contest, bringing her total to 14 RBIs this season. The catcher delivered a clutch two-out two-run double in the third inning to give the Johnnies a 4-0 lead at that point.
Jess Bianco added two hits and came around to score twice, raising her total to a team-high 42 runs scored and 52 hits this year. The Cherry Hill, N.J., product also swiped two bases as she leads the squad with 23 stolen bases.
Anese Thompson and Natalie Casto each chipped in an RBI to round out the scoring for the Red Storm.
Francia kicked off the contest by striking out the side in the bottom of the first, keeping the game scoreless after an inning of play, 0-0.
St. John's entered the run column in the top of the second after loading the bases on a pair of walks and a hit by pitch, Casto recorded an RBI groundout to give the Red Storm a 1-0 advantage.
Wagner (9-19) recorded its first hit in the bottom of the second on a Geanice Morales lead-off single to left. However, Macarinabbed Morales attempting to swipe second followed by Francia retiring the next two batters to hold onto the one-run lead.
The Johnnies continued to pounce in the top of the third, loading the bases on a pair of singles by Bianco and Jarrard and an Elanna Lysiak walk. A wild pitch then allowed Bianco to cross the plate, 2-0. After Seahawks' starter Karson Zavala recorded the next two outs, Macari delivered a two-run double to right field, plating Jarrard and Lysiak to put St. John's up 4-0.
Inside the circle, Francia continued to roll by striking out the side for the second time in the contest to end the third inning, 4-0.
Thompson added to the Red Storm's lead in the top of the fourth, drawing a bases-loaded walk to bring home Casto who was hit by a pitch to start the frame, 5-0.
Francia tossed a clean fourth and fifth, racking up a pair of strikeouts in the latter to bring her total to eight punchouts in the contest and keep the Johnnies up five runs.
In the top of the sixth, Bianco led off by reaching on an infield single before swiping her second bag of the day to put a runner on second. Jarrad then stepped to the dish and crushed a two-run home run, giving St. John's a commanding 7-0 lead.
