St. John’s Falls to Providence in Season Finale, 16-10

Patrick Scarborough set a career-best with 19 saves and tallied his first career assist
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The St. John's lacrosse team fell to RV Providence in its season finale, 16-10, on Friday night in Providence, R.I.
The Johnnies (4-11, 0-5 BIG EAST) trailed by just two at the break, but the Friars took momentum in the second half, propelling the home side to victory at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
Two weeks after matching his career-best with 18 saves against Villanova, Patrick Scarborough set a new career mark, making 19 stops on Friday. The Owings Mills, Md., native also picked up the first assist of his five-year career, becoming the first St. John's netminder to tally a point since Kaden Quirk picked up a helper on March 19, 2022.
Adrian Nowak recorded six points on four assists and two goals, marking his fourth game this season with at least five points and ninth multipoint effort. The redshirt sophomore finishes 2025 second on the team with 46 points, 24 scores and 22 assists.
Brian Kelly wrapped up his illustrious St. John's career with a two-goal, two-assist performance, giving him 61 points in 2025, becoming the first Red Storm player since Kieran McArdle in 2013 and 2014 to eclipse the 60-point mark. Kelly has tallied at least one point in 18 straight games and leaves St. John's in third place on the program's scoring list with 197 points.
Senior Bobby Seel added three goals on Friday night for his third hat trick and sixth three-point game of the season, finishing the 2025 campaign with 34 points on 20 goals and 14 helpers out of the Red Storm's midfield.
Dan Koban scored his career-best 11th goal of the season in his final collegiate game, and freshmen Jayson Cardenas and Ryan Ormond each found the back of the net against the Friars. Cardenas concludes his rookie campaign with 23 points, while Ormond recorded 28.
Fellow rookie Mitch Campbell rounded out his first season with the Johnnies with a two-assist performance, giving him 15 helpers and nine goals on the year.
The Red Storm's penalty kill continued to impress, holding Providence to 0-3 on the man-up. The Johnnies own a top-10 man-down unit in the country, keeping opponents scoreless on 32-of-41 such opportunities.
Richie Bell led the Firars with eight points on two goals and six assists, while Jack Horrigan scored seven times. In net, netminder Dan Donahue made 13 saves on 23 shots on goal. With the win, Providence clinched the No. 3 seed in next week's BIG EAST Tournament.
The Friars struck first, but the Red Storm responded with two straight to take an early lead. Kelly found Seel in the left slot, who found the back of the net to tie the game. Minutes later, Nowak created space himself and scored from near the crease to put St. John's up, 2-1, midway through the opening quarter. Providence netted two late scores to take a 3-2 lead after 15 minutes.
After the Friars scored again early in the second frame to make it 4-2, Seel brought St. John's back within one, burying his second of the night into the upper corner. Following two more tallies by the home squad, Kelly found twine with a pretty spin move near the net, making it 6-4 at the intermission. Scarborough made 14 saves in the first half, his most in a 30-minute stretch this season.
Providence pushed its lead to four early in the third stanza with two quick scores, before Scarborough's full-field pass found a wide-open Nowak, who finished his second of the evening to make it 8-5. Providence scored the game's next two goals, going up 10-5 with 7:12 remaining in the quarter. Campbell found Ormond for a goal, but Providence answered 18 seconds later. Cardenas finished a snipe at the 4:06 mark, and Seel completed his hat trick on Nowak's fourth helper of the afternoon just over a minute later, shrinking the deficit to 11-8 at the end of the third quarter.
Kelly's goal with seven minutes remaining ended a 2-0 Providence run to begin the final quarter. The Friars scored three more times before Koban's tally in the final minute put a cap on a 16-10 Providence victory.
