St. John’s Travels to Face Georgetown in Washington, D.C.

The Red Storm has beaten the Hoyas in each of the past two BIG EAST Tournaments
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team will head to Washington, D.C. on Sunday to face conference foe Georgetown.
The Johnnies are 11-5 and a perfect 4-0 in BIG EAST play this season, most recently falling to Fordham, 4-0, snapping a five-match winning streak. Alicia Gomez has led the Johnnies in her second year in Queens, winning 10 singles matches so far this season. In addition to her success in solo play, she has won nine matches in doubles play alongside Victoria Papadopoulou and Noemi Babikova.
Sandra Dzhambazov is 9-1 in singles action, while Babikova, Giulia Bizzari, Charlotta Buss and Nicoline Sartz-Lunde each have five solo triumphs. Bizzari and Buss have also been productive in doubles action, playing to a 6-1 record.
The Johnnies have earned multiple BIG EAST weekly honors during the current win streak. Babikova and Gomez were tabbed the conference's Doubles Team of the Week on March 17, and Babikova took Singles Player of the Week honors on March 24.
Georgetown is 6-9 this season, dropping each of its last four. Last time out on Sunday, the Hoyas narrowly fell on the road at Richmond, 4-3. Emily Novikov has an 11-4 solo record to lead Georgetown and Avantika Willy, Chloe Bendetti and Paige Gilbert each have seven victories.
In doubles play, Bendetti and Katie Garofolo-Ro have a team-best eight wins.
The Johnnies improved to 16-0 all-time against Georgetown with a 4-2 triumph in the BIG EAST Tournament last season, the second straight season the Red Storm took down the Hoyas in the conference tournament.
Following Wednesday's contest in the Nation's Capital, the Johnnies will head to West Long Branch, N.J., for an April 10 showdown with Monmouth.
