No. 62 St. John’s Shuts Out Villanova, 6-0, For Fifth Straight Victory

The Johnnies are 20-2 for the first time in program history
QUEENS, N.Y. – The No. 62 St. John's men's tennis team earned a 6-0 sweep over Villanova on Wednesday at Cunningham Park in Queens, running its win streak to five straight.
In a match that did not include any doubles competition, the Johnnies (20-2, 4-0 BIG EAST) won all six solo contests, extending the best start to a season in program history.
On the No. 1 court, Max Amling picked up his 12th victory of the season, taking down Cooper Gordon, 6-1, 6-3, while Carl Gustavsson took care of Trey Fourticq at the second position, 6-2, 7-5.
Making his St. John's debut, Venedikt Tsirikidze impressed at No. 3 singles, picking up a straight-set win against Justin Frattarelli, 6-2, 6-1. Leonardo Mileikowsky improved to 13-4 this season with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Thomas Wakefield on the No. 4 court, while Danilo Raicevic bested Kush Anand, 6-2, 6-2, on the No. 5 court for his fifth straight victory.
Ryota Kaneda earned his team-leading 14th win of the season in the final singles position, picking up a convincing 6-2, 6-3 decision over Quincy Jones.
With the victory, the Red Storm improved to 17-0 all-time against the Wildcats and finished the regular season with an undefeated BIG EAST record, winning all four contests against teams from within the conference.
St. John's will wrap up the regular season on Friday with a home contest against Saint Joseph's. First serve from the St. John's Outdoor Courts is set for 3:30 p.m.
