Peicheng Chen to Compete in NCAA Amherst Regional

Due to schedule change Chen will begin play on Sunday
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's men's golf standout Peicheng Chen will compete in his second consecutive NCAA Regional in Amherst, Va, this week at Poplar Grove Golf Club.
Due to impending inclement weather conditions, the opening round of the NCAA Regionals was moved up to tomorrow, Sunday May 11. Chen will tee off at 3:57 p.m. and live results will be available throughout the tournament. Schedule updates throughout the tournament will be available on RedStormSports.com.
The host course of the regional, which will be hosted by Liberty University, Poplar Grove Golf Club is a par-70, 7,212-yard track nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The layout was the final design from seven-time major champion Sam Snead and features rolling hills and manicured bent grass fairways and greens.
Chen will compete against 13 teams and is one of 10 individuals selected compete in Amherst, one of six regionals across the country. The top five teams from each regional and the top individual not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. from May 23-28.
Following a stellar senior campaign. Chen became the first St. John's golfer to qualify for back-to-back NCAA Regionals since former Johnnie and U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Keegan Bradley, who represented the Red Storm on national stage in 2007-08. The Being, China received an at-large bid into the Amherst Regional and is ranked No. 5 out of the 10 individuals.
This season, Chen elevated his game to a new level logging a career-low stroke average of 70.7. The team captain is tied for first in the country with seven top-three finishes and won three tournaments- The Doc Gimmler Red & Black, UConn Invitational at GreatHorse and the Vanharte Orange County Collegiate Classic.
Chen finished no worse than 21st place in 10 stroke play events and recorded 17 rounds under par. On Tuesday, he was named an All-BIG EAST First Team selection marking the third time in his career he has received all-league honors.
