The Red Storm finishes 2025 with a program record 39 wins
VILLANOVA, Pa. – The top-seeded St. John's softball team (39-17-1, 19-5 BIG EAST) fell to sixth-seeded Providence, 10-0, in the BIG EAST Tournament to end its 2025 campaign on Friday night.
The Red Storm finished the year with a program record 39 wins, and its 19 BIG EAST victories in the regular season marked an all-time high. St. John's won its fourth BIG EAST Regular Season Title in 2025, defeating UConn in the final weekend.
Jess Bianco set the St. John's single-season hit record, recording her 74th knock of the season in the top of the fourth inning with a bunt single to third base. The center fielder batted .389 and set the program record with 54 runs scored in 2025.
Anese Thompson recorded her third hit of the tournament, while London Jarrard, Elanna Lysiak, Ana Serafinko and Madison Konopka tallied a hit apiece.
The Red Storm offense threatened in the top of the first, putting runners on the corners when Lysiak walked and Thompson singled up the middle with two outs. However, Providence's starter Alyssa Twomey tallied the third out to leave the frame unscathed, 0-0.
In the bottom of the first, the Friars jumped out to an early lead, scoring their first run on a St. John's miscue before Emma Eichten recorded a sacrifice fly to give Providence a 2-0 lead after an inning of play.
Providence added six more runs in the bottom of the second, taking a commanding 8-0 lead early in the contest.
St. John's threatened again in the top of the third, loading the bases with a pair of base hits by Jarrard and Lysiak, along with a Serafinko hit by pitch. Twomey found her way out of the jam once again, recording the next two outs to keep the Friars' eight-run advantage intact.
The Friars increased their lead in the home half of the third as Cameron Dunn hit a sacrifice fly and Emma Douma notched an RBI single, 10-0.
The score held until it became the final as Providence claimed the 10-0 victory to advance in the BIG EAST Tournament and end St. John's 2025 campaign.
