The Red Storm won 14 total matches over two days of competition

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — The St. John's women's tennis team kicked off its fall schedule this weekend, earning 14 wins at the Hofstra Invitational.

The competition began on Friday at the University tennis courts in Hempstead, N.Y., and continued through Saturday afternoon. The Johnnies faced players from Hofstra, Stony Brook and Fordham.

Freshman Abi Redman won five combined matches in her St. John's debut, going 3-0 in doubles play with Captain Alicia Gomez. In singles play, Redman earned a convincing 6-3, 6-3 decision over Hofstra's Ava Veneziano on Friday and picked up a straight-set win over Stony Brook's Maria Perez on Saturday.

Captain Charlotta Buss had a successful weekend winning three total matches. The senior won two singles matches with a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 shutout against Hofstra's Maragliano on Friday, and another dominant 6-1, 6-0 outing against Stony Brook's Mila Charles on Saturday.

Gomez filled up the win column winning all five of her matches. The graduate student dominated doubles alongside Abi Redman and scored a 6-1, 6-0 win on Friday over Hofstra's Bilokon and a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Stony Brook's Devineni.

The Red Storm will continue its fall season on Oct. 3-5 at the Fordham Invitational in the Bronx, N.Y.
