Lefteris Liotopoulos scored a career high 17 points as the Red Storm men’s basketball team rolls past the Bluejays on Saturday
OMAHA, Neb.- The St. John's men's basketball team completed a sweep of its Midwest road swing with a victory over Creighton, 90-73, on Saturday at the CHI Health Center Omaha.
Trailing by five midway through the opening half, St. John's engineered a 22-4 scoring run and never looked back to record its largest margin of victory over the Bluejays in Omaha. The Johnnies were efficient offensively shooting 50.8 percent (33-65 FG) from the field and 52.2 percent (12-22 FG) from 3-point range.
In total, six Johnnies scored in double-figures for the second time this season, led by Lefteris Liotopoulos, who recorded the best performance of his collegiate career. The Thessaloniki, Greece native finished with a career-high 17 points to pace all scorers. The sophomore guard knocked down five 3-pointers, tied for the most by a Red Storm player this season by going 5-for-8 (62.5%) from beyond-the-arc. After tallying just one double-digit scoring outing in his first 37 collegiate appearances, Liotopolous has notched back-to-back double figure efforts and is averaging 13.5 points and 3.5 triples made per game over the stretch.
Oziyah Sellers registered 16 points, highlighted by 14 in the first half, to help spark the Johnnies offensive surge on Saturday. Sellers shot 6-for-11 (54.5%) from the floor and matched a career-high with five assists.
Zuby Ejiofor, Ian Jackson, and Bryce Hopkins all chipped in 12 points for the Red Storm. Ejiofor, led all players with a game-high six assists and a career-best four steals. The St. John's big man now leads the Red Storm in scoring, rebounding, assists, blocks and steals per game this season.
Dylan Darling was the sixth Johnnie to reach double-digits adding 11 points on 4-of-7 (57.1%) shooting from the floor. In BIG EAST play, the redshirt junior is shooting 61.5 percent (8-13 3FG) from 3-point range.
The Johnnies made 12 triples, their second highest total this season and shot over 50 percent from deep for the second time in a four-game span. Through five BIG EAST games, St. John's (11-5, 4-1 BIG EAST) has shot 41.1 percent (51-122 3FG) from 3-point land.
The Red Storm dominated the glass outrebounding the Bluejays, 39-26, and 12-2 on the offensive end. For the second straight game, St. John's took great care of the basketball, committing just six turnovers.
With the win, St. John's extends its BIG EAST road winning streak to six games which dates back to Feb. 19, 2025, the fourth longest in program history. The Red Storm has now won six or more consecutive league games away from home for the first time since it tallied seven in a row from Dec. 30, 1997 to Feb. 24, 1998.
St. John's also captured its second-ever win against Creighton in Omaha, snapping a six-game skid at CHI Health Center.
The Red Storm used a 7-0 run to start the game after a pair of mid-range makes and a 3-pointer from Jackson. The Bluejays settled in with Isaac Traudt burying back-to-back triples to quickly evaporate the Johnnies early advantage. After the Bluejays made four-straight field goals to take their first lead of the afternoon, 12-11, Ruben Prey made a key block leading to a Sellers triple on the fastbreak to go up 14-12 with 13:31 remaining in the first half.
The Bluejays gathered a five-point cushion, 23-18, hitting 6-of-10 attempts from beyond-the-arc to start the contest. The Johnnies responded with Darling and Liotopoulos cashing in from downtown during a 12-2 scoring run that gave St. John's a 30-25 lead at the under-8 media timeout. The run continued as Liotopolous buried his second triple of the game to propel the Red Storm to a double-digit advantage, 35-25, closing out a 17-2 stretch with 5:53 left in the half.
St. John's stayed hot on the offensive end as Sellers and Liotopoulos combined for eight straight after the sophomore from Greece knocked down his career-best third 3-pointer to expand the advantage to 16, 43-27, with 3:24 left in the half. Jackson went coast-to-coast on the Red Storm's final possession of the opening period to balloon the Johnnies cushion to 18, 52-34, heading into the locker room.

The Johnnies kept their shooting touch from outside in the second half, as Jackson and Hopkins nailed 3-pointers as the advantage grew to 22, 59-37, early in the stanza.
With St. John's maintaining a sizeable lead, Darling flushed a 3-pointer to bring the advantage to 23, 72-49, with 9:17 remaining. Liotopoulos then tallied eight points over a 1:56 span to surpass his previous personal best in scoring by seven points. The guard's fifth triple of the contest expanded the Red Storm lead to its largest of the game, 82-56, with 5:43 left to play.
