The Red Storm men’s basketball team has won five of its last six games and is off to 4-1 start in BIG EAST competition
QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's men's basketball team will return to Madison Square Garden on Tuesday to battle Marquette at 6:30 p.m. on Peacock and NBC Sports Network.

A national radio broadcast provided by Compass Media Network will stream on the Varsity Network with Jerry Recco and Steve Lappas on the call. The LEARFIELD St. John's Radio Network broadcast will be available with John Minko and Brandon Tierney on ESPN New York 880 AM. The radio call will also be available on ESPN New York App, the Varsity Network, TuneIn, Sirius XM Channel 383, the SiriusXM App and the St. John's Red Storm App.
The Red Storm has won five of its last six and is off to a 4-1 start to BIG EAST play for the third straight season under Head Coach Rick Pitino. The Johnnies are coming off back-to-back Quad 1 road wins at Butler and Creighton last week, both by double-digits.
In its last time out, St. John's (11-5, 4-1 BIG EAST) throttled Creighton, 90-73, on Saturday for its first win in Omaha in seven years and second all-time. Six Red Storm players scored in double-figures for the second time this season and the Johnnies were lights out from 3-point range, shooting 52.2 percent from beyond the arc. The efficient offensive performance was spearhead by Lefteris Liotopolous, who finished with a career-high 17 points on 5-of-8 (62.5%) shooting from downtown. After previously recording just one double-figure scoring outing in his first 36 collegiate appearances, the sophomore has averaged 13.5 points on 50 percent (7-14) shooting from 3-point land in 22.5 minutes of action per game over his last two contests.
As a team, St. John's has shot 50 percent or better in each of its last four wins and are 8-0 when reaching that mark this season. Through five BIG EAST games, the Red Storm boast a 41.8 percent shooting clip from 3-point range, which leads the BIG EAST. Additionally, the Johnnies have taken care of the ball averaging just 5.5 turnovers over the last two games. Oziyah Sellers paces the league with a staggering 15-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio during conference play.
Zuby Ejiofor was recognized by the conference for the fifth time this season earning a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Ejiofor played an integral role, as he has all season in last week's pivotal victories. On the year, the Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year is averaging a team-high 15.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.2 blocks and 1.4 steals per game. Ejiofor is one of two players in NCAA Division I to lead their team in all five of those categories alongside Quion Williams of Arkansas Pine-Bluff as of games played through Jan. 11.
St. John's and Marquette will meet for the 49th time with the Golden Eagles leading the all-time series, 29-19. The Red Storm swept all three meetings last season, culminating with a 79-63 victory over the Golden Eagles in the BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals on March 14. Ejiofor broke the school's BIG EAST Tournament record exploding for a career-high 33 points in that contest.
Marquette (6-11, 1-5 BIG EAST) will arrive in Midtown Manhattan after a narrow 76-73 loss to Villanova at Fiserv Forum on Saturday. Freshman Nigel James scored a season-high 31 points in the setback to the Wildcats. James, who attended Long Island Lutheran will make his homecoming tomorrow night. Prior to the Villanova loss, the Golden Eagles picked up their first conference victory on Wednesday night over Xavier, 66-65.
Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team selection Chase Ross leads the team averaging 15.5 points per game. The guard ranks second in the BIG EAST and 33rd nationally logging 2.2 steals per contest. The Golden Eagles rank 26th in NCAA Division I logging 16.4 fastbreak points per game.
Following Tuesday's contest, St. John's will travel to Villanova to for a Saturday night showdown at the Xfinity Mobile Arena, formerly the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia at 8 p.m.
