The Red Storm men’s basketball team seeks second straight Quad 1 victory at the CHI Health Center Omaha
QUEENS, N.Y. - In a rematch of the 2025 BIG EAST Tournament Championship, the St. John's men's basketball team will travel to Creighton for its second straight road contest on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET inside the CHI Health Center Omaha.
The game will air on FS1 with Tim Brando and Donny Marshall on the call from Omaha. The LEARFIELD St. John's Radio Network broadcast will be available with John Minko and Vin Parise on ESPN New York 1050 AM. The radio call will also be available on ESPN New York App, the Varsity Network, TuneIn, Sirius XM Channel 138 or 202, the SiriusXM App and the St. John's Red Storm App.
St. John's (10-5, 3-1 BIG EAST) will seek its second straight Quad 1 victory of the week after an 84-70 win at Butler on Tuesday inside historic Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Red Storm dominated the second half after going into halftime tied, outscoring the Bulldogs, 42-28, over the final 20 minutes. The Johnnies shot 50 percent (33-66 FG) from the field and improved to 7-0 in games when they shoot 50 percent or better.
Defensively, the Johnnies forced the Bulldogs into a season-high 21 turnovers converting the takeaways into 27 points. On the flip side, the Red Storm took care of the basketball totaling a season-low five turnovers. The giveaway total marked the program's lowest in a game since it surrendered four on the road at then-No. 12 Villanova on Feb. 26, 2020.
Reigning BIG EAST Player of the Week Zuby Ejiofor turned in another strong performance finishing with a team-high 18 points in Indianapolis. Over the last three games, the senior forward is averaging 25.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, which includes a career-best 33-point, 15-rebound outing against Providence on Jan. 3. The Garland, Texas native currently ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in scoring (16.9 ppg) and rebounding (7.4 rpg).
The sophomore duo of Ruben Prey and Lefteris Liotopoulos have played a pivotal role off the bench for the Johnnies in recent games. Both players added 10 points and made key contributions during the road win at Butler. Liotopoulos has scored seven or more points in three of the last four games and Prey paces the Red Storm shooting 58.3 percent from the 3-point range during this stretch.
The Red Storm is off to a 3-1 start in conference play for the third consecutive season under Head Coach Rick Pitino. Prior to his arrival and dating back to 2000, the Johnnies began BIG EAST competition 3-1 just twice. Since Pitino took the reins in 2023, St. John's has won 32 conference games, which is the program's highest total in a three-season span since 1998-2001.
Dating back to Feb. 19, 2025, the Johnnies have captured five consecutive BIG EAST road contests. The five-game winning streak marks the longest since the Red Storm won five straight from Jan. 20 to Feb. 20, 1999. With a win on Saturday, St. John's streak of road victories would be the fourth longest in program history and the most consecutive BIG EAST road wins since the 1997-98 season.
Saturday's contest between St. John's and Creighton will be their first since the 2025 BIG EAST Tournament Championship game, when the Red Storm won the crown for the first time since 2000. St. John's defeated Creighton, 82-66, at Madison Square Garden on March 15, 2025. The Johnnies made 14 consecutive field goals during a 32-14 second half run to claim their fourth league tournament title.
Creighton (10-6, 4-1 BIG EAST) leads the all-time series, 19-13, heading into the 33rd all-time meeting on Saturday. The Bluejays have won 13 of the 14 contests played in Omaha with the lone Red Storm victory coming on Jan. 30, 2019. On the road at Creighton is the only BIG EAST matchup, home or away, Pitino has not yet won as head coach at St. John's.
The Bluejays return home following a key road win on Wednesday outlasting Villanova, 76-72, at Finneran Pavilion. Creighton has won four of its last five and is off to a 4-1 start in BIG EAST play, which sits second in the league standings.
Austin Swartz has been the catalyst for the Bluejays as of late. Since entering the starting line-up, the Miami transfer is averaging 17.9 points per game on 44.4 percent (28-63 FG) shooting from 3-point land. Iowa transfer Josh Dix leads them in scoring (12.3 ppg) and returner Jasen Green paces the Bluejays in assists (2.7 apg) and rebounding (5.5 rpg).
Following its road trip to Omaha, St. John's will return to Madison Square Garden for a Tuesday night contest against Marquette at 6:30 p.m. on Peacock.
