Red Storm and Hoyas to kick off at 7 p.m. on ESPN+
QUEENS, N.Y. – Unbeaten in BIG EAST play and four of its last five matches overall, the St. John's men's soccer team will return to Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium on Saturday night when it plays host to the No. 3 Georgetown Hoyas.
Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+ with Satchel Pena-Rivero on the call from Queens.
The first 150 fans will receive a St. John's Soccer Scarf upon arrival at Belson Stadium.
Unbeaten in its first two BIG EAST matches with a win over Villanova and an impressive road draw at No. 4 Creighton, the Red Storm (5-4-1, 1-0-1 BIG EAST) welcomes the Hoyas (9-1-1, 3-0-0 BIG EAST) for a battle of the top teams in the BIG EAST's East Division standings.
The Hoyas are the highest ranked opponent to visit Belson Stadium since the Red Storm drew with No. 2 Marshall, 1-1, on Sept. 5, 2025. Georgetown will be the Red Storm's second top-four opponent in a span of three games with a date against No. 7 Maryland looming on Oct. 20.
As of Friday morning, Georgetown occupies the top spot in the RPI rankings and is one of four BIG EAST teams inside the top 20. One of six BIG EAST teams inside the top 50, St. John's jumped a couple of spots to no. 41 following a Tuesday night win over Monmouth.
In that last outing against Hawks, Issa Atcha Yaya provided the lone goal, his second of the year, in a 1-0 Red Storm victory. In the 68th minute, the sophomore utilized a perfectly timed run to break free from his defender before collecting a threaded pass from Ander Gonzalez. He then finished with his left foot across his body, sending the ball into the back of the cage and giving St. John's the 1-0 lead with which it would end the game.
St. John's closed the contest with a 7-6 shot advantage, but four of Monmouth's shots came in the final 22 minutes after the Red Storm's goal. The Johnnies, who were on the front foot for most of the evening, ended the match with an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.
Georgetown comes to Queens riding a five-game winning streak. In their three BIG EAST matches, all of which have been victories, the Hoyas are outscoring the competition by a combined margin of 12-2. In their most recent outing against Providence last Friday night, the Hoyas scored a half dozen times in the first half alone before holding on to beat the Friars, 6-1.
Four different Hoyas have scored at least four goals this season, led by junior forward Mitchell Baker with seven goals in just eight games. Baker has not played since Georgetown's win over Marquette on Sept. 18. Senior midfielder Matthew Van Horn is the team's leading point producer with 17 in 11 appearances. The Alaska native has scored in each of the Hoyas' last four games, including a brace against Providence last week.
New York native Charlie DeMarco has started all 11 matches between the pipes for the Hoyas, posting a 0.84 goals against average and a .757 save percentage. He has recorded four shutouts on the campaign.
St. John's and Georgetown will meet for the 44th time on Saturday night. St. John's owns a 25-14-4 all-time advantage in the series. The Johnnies have a 2-1-1 record in the last four contests between the two programs, including a 2-0-0 mark in Queens.
The Red Storm enjoyed a successful start to the series history, going 20-4-3 in their first 27 matches against the Hoyas from 1985-2011.
After welcoming the Hoyas, the Johnnies will travel to Chicago for a Friday afternoon date with DePaul on Oct. 16. Kick-off from Wish Field is set for 4 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
