The Red Storm men’s basketball team carries a 10-game winning streak into its showdown with the Friars at Amica Mutual Pavilion
QUEENS, N.Y. - Riding a 10-game winning streak, the No. 17/17 St. John's men's basketball team (19-5, 12-1 BIG EAST) will head to Providence for a Saturday matchup at Amica Mutual Pavilion.
The battle between two charter members of the BIG EAST will air on TNT and truTV at 1 p.m. Brian Anderson, Grant Hill and Andy Katz will be on the call from the Ocean State.
The LEARFIELD St. John's Radio Network broadcast will be available with John Minko and Tarik Turner on 880 AM ESPN New York, the ESPN New York App, the Varsity Network, TuneIn, Sirius XM Channel 85, the SiriusXM App and the St. John's Red Storm App.
Winners of 10-straight and 12 of their last 13, the Johnnies have tied their second longest winning streak in the program's BIG EAST history. The Red Storm's current stretch of consecutive victories dating back to Jan. 6 ranks the longest amongst high major programs and tied for fourth best across all of NCAA Division I.
The Red Storm is off to a 12-1 start in BIG EAST play for the second straight season under Head Coach Rick Pitino. The current record is tied for the second-best trailing only the 1984-85 team that went 14-0 to begin conference play.
Dating back to Feb. 19, 2025, the Johnnies have captured nine consecutive road victories during conference competition, which is tied for longest BIG EAST road streak in program history. The nine BIG EAST wins away from home marks the most by one of the conference's member schools since Villanova rattled off 13 in a row from Jan. 31, 2015 to Feb. 20, 2016. The Red Storm's nine game conference road winning streak ranks the third longest in the country, trailing Clemson (14) and Liberty (10).
St. John's is 6-0 on the road to start a single-season for the first time since the 1982-83 season. With a win on Saturday, the Red Storm would move to a 7-0 mark away from home for the first time since the 1929-30 season.
On Monday, after sliding up five spots in the national polls to no. 17, the Red Storm picked up its first overtime victory of the season outlasting Xavier, 87-82, at Madison Square Garden. With the win, Pitino moved past Roy Williams to take sole possession of third place on the all-time NCAA Division I wins list with victory no. 904. Zuby Ejiofor paced the Johnnies with 25 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Ejiofor has strung together a stellar senior campaign as he leads the team and ranks top-10 in the BIG EAST in scoring (16.3 PPG), rebounding (7.5 RPG), assists (3.5 APG) and blocks (2.0 BPG). The Garland, Texas native has recorded back-to-back 20-point performances and has posted seven on the season. Ejiofor also ranks top-30 nationally in made free throws (134) and attempts (191).
Bryce Hopkins has been on a tear during the 10-game winning streak averaging 14.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game during that span. The graduate student went for 19 points on 9-of-11 (81.8%) shooting from the free throw line against the Musketeers and has logged nine double-figure scoring outings in his last 10 games. Hopkins, spent three years at Providence from 2022-25, making 50 appearances and averaging 15.8 points and 8.5 rebounds over his tenure. Hopkins was named an All-BIG EAST First Team selection in 2022-23.

The Red Storm has won four of the last six meetings and will look to avenge its lone BIG EAST loss as Providence bested St. John's, 77-71, at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 3.
The Friars (11-14, 4-10 BIG EAST) fell to Seton Hall on Wednesday after winning back-to-back games against DePaul and Butler last week. Providence paces the BIG EAST in scoring pouring in 88.2 points per game but ranks last in scoring defense allowing 85.6 points per contest.
Reigning BIG EAST Player of the Week Jaylin Sellers leads Providence averaging 17.4 points per game. Over the last three contests, the UCF transfer is posting 26.7 points per contest on 58.3% (14-24) shooting from 3-point range during that span.
Following Saturday's contest, the Red Storm will visit Marquette on Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET on TNT.
