Serafinko, Francia lead St. John’s to Day One Sweep at The Spring Games

The Johnnies improve to 6-1 after defeating Alabama State and LIU
LEESBURG, Fla. (Feb. 13, 2026) — The St. John's softball team (6-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) swept its opening day at The Spring Games in Leesburg, Fla., on Friday, defeating Alabama State, 6-1, before topping LIU, 8-5, at Sleepy Hollow Complex.
With the two victories, the Red Storm improved to 6-1 on the season, marking the program's best start through seven games since 2010.
St. John's totaled 21 hits on the day and struck out 20 batters in the circle to secure its fifth and sixth straight wins.
Game 1
St. John's opened the day with a 6-1 victory over Alabama State behind a complete-game effort from Ana Serafinko. The senior allowed just two hits and one run across seven innings while striking out 12 to earn her second win of the season.
Ava Fierst recorded two RBIs, while Elanna Lysiak added a run-scoring single. Natasha Limbani scored twice and London Slade logged a two-hit performance.
The Johnnies struck first in the second inning when Fierst lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home the game's first run. Alabama State tied the contest with a solo home run in the fourth, but St. John's answered. Lysiak notched an RBI single before Fierst added another run-scoring knock to push the Red Storm ahead, 4-1. St. John's added insurance runs in the fifth frame on an RBI groundout from Bianca Lobosco and again in the sixth when Slade drove in a run on a lineout to left field.
Serafinko retired 10 of the final 11 batters she faced, including striking out the side in the seventh to seal the victory.
Game 2
St. John's completed the sweep with an 8-5 victory over local foe LIU.
The Johnnies broke the game open with a seven-run fifth inning, plating nearly all their runs in the frame.
Lysiak went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI. Madison Konopka finished 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, while Alyssa Platero added two hits, including a double and RBI. Natasha Limbani, Avery Neuman and Makenna Meadows each drove in a run as St. John's totaled 13 hits.
Loreley Francia earned the win with six innings of work, allowing three earned runs while striking out six. Serafinko entered in the seventh and recorded two strikeouts to secure the save.
After four scoreless innings, Lysiak opened the fifth-inning rally with an RBI single. Limbani followed with a run-scoring double before Neuman and Meadows each delivered RBI singles. Platero's double added two tallies and Konopka capped the surge with an RBI triple to hand the Johnnies a 7-0 advantage.
St. John's added another run in the sixth when Lysiak tripled and later scored on a groundout by Jacqueline Scott to extend the lead to 8-0.
LIU responded with five runs in the bottom of the sixth, capitalizing on two errors to trim the deficit to three. Francia limited further damage before Serafinko closed out the contest in the seventh to complete the sweep.
St. John's returns to action tomorrow with a 1 p.m. matchup against Southern Mississippi followed by a 3:30 p.m. contest against Bethune-Cookman.
