Red Storm has won 11 straight games heading into Wednesday night’s contest
QUEENS, N.Y. - On the heels of an 11-straight wins and 10-straight victories on the road, the No. 17/16 St. John's men's basketball team will return to action on Wednesday at Marquette at 9 p.m. ET.
TNT will carry the national telecast with Brian Anderson and Robbie Hummel on the call from Fiserv Forum. Andy Katz will serve as the sideline reporter in Milwaukee.
The LEARFIELD St. John's Radio Network broadcast will be available with John Minko and Vin Parise on 880 AM ESPN New York, the ESPN New York App, the Varsity Network, TuneIn, Sirius XM Channel 83, the SiriusXM App and the St. John's Red Storm App.
The Red Storm (20-5, 13-1 BIG EAST) has won 11 straight contests, dating back to Jan. 6, which is tied for the fourth active longest winning streak in NCAA Division I. The 11-game streak and 13-1 start to league play is the second-best stretch in the program's BIG EAST history trailing only the 1984-85 team that rattled off 14 consecutive conference victories. The unbeaten run marks St. John's longest since the beginning of the 2018-19 season, when the Red Storm won its first 12 games of the campaign.
The Johnnies success translates to the road as they recently set a new program record with their 10th straight BIG EAST road win on Saturday over Providence, 79-69. The streak dates back nearly a calendar year to Feb. 19, 2025 and is the longest by a BIG EAST program since Villanova racked up 13 consecutive on the road from Jan. 31, 2015 through Feb. 20, 2016. The Red Storm has started 7-0 away from home for the first time in 96 years, when it won its first seven on the road during the 1929-30 campaign.
During its 42-day long undefeated stretch, the Red Storm has significantly bolstered its resume. The Johnnies rank no. 17 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and slid up one spot to no. 16 in the USA TODAY Coaches poll rankings. St. John's checks in at no. 21 in KenPom and no. 24 in the NET rankings as of games played through Feb. 15. Rick Pitino's squad holds a 3-4 mark in Quad 1 games and is 7-0 in Quad 2 contests, all of which have come during the winning streak. Wednesday's matchup at Marquette presents another Quad 2 opportunity.
St. John's is coming off a double-digit road victory against the Friars in a hostile environment at Amica Mutual Pavilion. Dylan Darling paved the way during the second half surge tallying 18 of his season-high 23 points in the latter stanza. The redshirt junior guard pulled down a season-best eight rebounds.
Darling was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll and named Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week, his first selection of the season. The guard averaged 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game last week in a pair of wins. During BIG EAST play, the Spokane, Wash., native has hit 47.2% (17-36) of his 3-point tries.
Zuby Ejiofor continues to dominate in all phases of the game for the Red Storm. The senior forward has reached double-figures in scoring in 14 of the last games. Ejiofor leads the BIG EAST in made free throws (140) and attempts (200). The big man additionally ranks top-10 in the BIG EAST in scoring (16.2 PPG), rebounding (7.4 RPG), assists (3.5 APG) and blocks (1.9 BPG). Ejiofor is the only player in the country to average 16.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.9 blocks per game.
The Johnnies have taken care of the basketball during the winning streak, committing only 8.2 turnovers and holding a turnover margin of +5.2 over the last 11 contests. The Red Storm posted a season-low five giveaways for the third time during the unbeaten stretch. Over the entire season, the Johnnies boast a +3.2 turnover margin, which ranks 21st in NCAA Division I.
In the first meeting, the Red Storm downed the Golden Eagles, 92-68, on Jan. 13 at The World's Most Famous Arena. Oziyah Sellers led all scorers with a season-high 24 points and Ejiofor added 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
