QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team is set to open BIG EAST play when it takes on UConn on Friday at the USTA National Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 12:15 p.m.
The Red Storm sit at 5-3 this season and most recently fell to Yale, 4-0, on Feb. 14. Alicia Gomez has paced the Johnnies in her third season in Queens, with a combined 12-1 record, including a perfect 5-0 mark in singles play. Paired with Abi Redman, the duo has posted a 7-1 mark to open the 2026 campaign, picking up a victory on the No. 1 doubles court against the Bulldogs in the last match.
UConn enters Friday's match with a 5-1 record on the season. After opening the year with a win against Fairfield and a loss at Army, the Huskies have won four straight contests, most recently defeating Quinnipiac, 5-2. The matchup with the Red Storm marks the first of a three-match road swing for UConn.
The Huskies are coming off a successful 2025 campaign in which they captured the BIG EAST regular-season title, posting a 9-1 record in conference play and a 16-5 overall mark under head coach Laura Glitz.
This contest will mark the 15th all-time meeting between the two programs, with St. John's holding a 13-1 advantage in the series dating back to 2004. In the most recent meeting, UConn edged the Red Storm in a tightly contested match in Storrs.
Following Friday's match, St. John's will return to action on Feb. 27, hosting New Haven at the USTA National Tennis Center. First serve is set for 12:15 p.m.
