Agynskyy named BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week
NEW YORK – On Monday, Semen Agynskyy was named BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week and Doubles Team of the Week honors alongside Adam Groves, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Agynskyy went a perfect 4-0 overall during the opening week of the 2026 spring season, with a pair of doubles victories coming alongside Groves against Quinnipiac and FDU.
The recognition marks the first weekly conference honor of Agynskyy's career after a dominant start to the season for the Northern Arizona transfer. For Groves, the accolade represents the third conference award of his career and first of the season.
In North Haven, Conn., the Red Storm opened the weekend with a 4-1 victory over Quinnipiac before delivering a pair of commanding shutouts, blanking FDU, 4-0, and Siena, 6-0, without dropping a single set at Cunningham Park.
In doubles action, the duo opened their 2026 campaign with a hard-fought 7-6 (9-7) victory over Quinnipiac's Finn Burridge and Vishal Prakash on the no. 2 doubles court on Thursday. Agynskyy then carried that momentum into singles play, defeating Elias Hoxha in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.
Back in Queens, the pair continued their strong play with a 6-0 victory over FDU's Gryffin Minor and Benjamin Wrenn in doubles action. Agynskyy followed with another outstanding singles performance, defeating Mateja Stefanovic, 6-0, 6-2, on the no. 1 court.
The Johnnies will return to action on Wednesday, hosting Drexel at the USTA National Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
