The Johnnie duo earns second conference honor of the season
NEW YORK – Semen Agynskyy and Adam Groves were named the BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
The duo posted a perfect 3-0 record on the week, earning victories over pairs from Adelphi, Binghamton and VCU to help lead the Red Storm to three victories.
The honor marks the second time the duo has earned BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week recognition and the third of Agynskyy's career. It is also the fourth career weekly honor for Groves and his second of the 2026 campaign. Following a trio of victories this week, the pair improved to a perfect 5-0 on the season, highlighting an impressive start on the doubles court.
In a doubleheader on Feb. 18, the pair opened the day with a hard-fought 6-4 victory over Adelphi's Leo Silverstein and Spyridon Papageorgiou. They carried that momentum into the afternoon, cruising to a 6-2 win against Binghamton's Andrew Fang and Ronin Lotlikar.
Agynskyy and Groves continued their dominant play on Friday, earning a convincing 6-1 victory over VCU's Patrik Petera and Kostiantyn Mantach to help lead the Red Storm to a 6-1 start to the season.
St. John's returns to action when it travels to Ohio, to take on Cleveland State on Friday at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
