St. John’s Rolls Past New Haven, 4-1

Johnnies have won five of their last six matches
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team opened its two-match weekend slate with a 4-1 victory over New Haven on Friday afternoon.
The Red Storm (7-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) secured the doubles point with a sweep before adding three singles wins to clinch its seventh victory of the season.
Captain Charlotta Buss and Nao Kojima set the tone on the No. 3 court, earning a 6-0 victory over Petra Horvath and Micaela Rosignuolo. The Johnnies clinched the doubles point on the No. 2 court, as Noemi Babikova and Victoria Papadopoulou secured a 6-0 win against Sofia Lazaro and Pierina Lescher.
St. John's secured a commanding victory over the Chargers on Friday, beginning with a first singles match win due to retirement on the no. 2 court. Buss added her second win of the day with a decisive 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Addison Rosser on the no. 5 court. The Red Storm extended their lead to two when Abi Redman cruised past Lazaro, 6-1, 6-3, on the no. 4 court.
Kojima closed out the team's victory with an impressive 6-3, 6-2 performance over Lescher on the no. 3 court.
Following the win over New Haven, Lauren Leo's squad will head to Providence for a BIG EAST clash against the Friars on Saturday. First serve at the Providence Tennis Center is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
