QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team will host BIG EAST foe DePaul on Friday at the USTA National Tennis Center. First serve is set for 12:15 p.m.
Last time out, the Johnnies (9-4, 2-0 BIG EAST) traveled to the Sunshine State for a two-match weekend, splitting the contests. On March 3, St. John's fell to Stetson in DeLand before bouncing back with a 4-0 sweep of Bethune–Cookman in Daytona Beach.
Captain Alicia Gomez led the way for St. John's in Florida, posting a 3-0 record including a doubles victory against the Hatters alongside Abi Redman.
DePaul (8-6, 4-0 BIG EAST) enters Friday's conference matchup riding a three-match winning streak, which includes league victories over UConn and Butler before most recently defeating Illinois-Chicago.
The Blue Demons are led by junior Sasha Stula, who owns a 20-7 overall singles record, including 10-1 on the No. 1 court, and holds a 12-12 mark in doubles play. Yasemin Pehilvan has also been a key contributor for DePaul, posting a 16-12 overall record while competing across the No. 3 and No. 4 courts.
Friday's matchup marks the 17th meeting between the programs since 2008. DePaul leads the all-time series 11-5, but the Johnnies claimed the most recent meeting, defeating the Blue Demons 4-3 in Chicago on March 21 of last season.
Following Friday's conference showdown, the Red Storm will head down to the City of Brotherly Love to take on St. Joseph's. First-serve from the SJU Tennis Complex is set for 12 p.m.
