St. John’s Falls to DePaul on Friday

The Red Storm will be back in action on March 20 against Saint Joseph’s
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team (9-5, 2-1 BIG EAST) fell to conference foe DePaul (9-6, 5-0 BIG EAST), 5-2, on Friday afternoon at the USTA National Tennis Center.
The Blue Demons secured the doubles point before capturing four singles matches to claim the conference victory.
In doubles action, Alicia Gomez and Abi Redman opened play with a 6-2 win over Hannah Smith and Clara Nisson on the No. 1 court. DePaul responded by taking the remaining two doubles matches to earn the early team point.
St. John's briefly took a 2-1 lead in singles play as Nao Kojima defeated Yasemin Pehlivan, 6-0, 6-4, on the No. 2 court and Noemi Babikova cruised past Smith, 6-0, 6-4, on the No. 3 court.
However, the Blue Demons rallied to claim the final four singles matches, securing the 5-2 victory.
Following Friday's contest, St. John's will return to action on March 20 when the Red Storm travels to Philadelphia to face the Saint Joseph's Hawks women's tennis. First serve from the SJU Tennis Complex is scheduled for 12 p.m.
