Red Storm and Bears meet for just the second time in program history
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's lacrosse team will look to get back in the win column as Justin Turri's squad is set to travel to head down to Macon, Georgia to take on Mercer (3-4, 0-0 ASUN). Face-off from Five Star Stadium is set for 11 a.m.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Joe Kopsho and Luke Winstel on the call. Live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
Last time out, St. John's (2-5, 0-0 BIG EAST) dropped a 19-4 decision to Rutgers on Tuesday afternoon. Adrian Nowak paced the Johnnies with two goals, while freshmen AJ Jeffares and Jackson Harcarik each recorded their first collegiate goals. Goalkeepers Matt Nelson and Danny Seaman combined for 14 saves in net as the Red Storm continued to battle.
After recording 11 saves against the Scarlet Knights, it marks Nelson's sixth game this season with double-digit stops.
St. John's was also not penalized in their last game, marking the first penalty-free contest since April 20, 2024 against Georgetown. The Red Storm rank 15th nationally in man-down defense (.813), allowing just three goals on 16 extra-man chances.
Mercer enters Saturday's contest with a 3-4 record, dropping its last four games after opening the season 3-0. The Bears began the year with three victories over Hampton in the season opener before earning wins against Marist and VMI.
Following a 2-11 campaign in 2025, Head Coach Ryan Danehy returned the team's top four scorers, led by Dillon Bush, who recorded 42 points (39 goals) last season, ranking third in the ASUN in goals. Bush has tallied 20 points (18 goals, two assists) this year, while Michael Frederick, a 2025 ASUN All-Freshman Team selection, leads the Bears with 21 points (15 goals, six assists).
In goal, freshman Jacob Neuman anchors the Mercer defense, starting all seven games this season. Neuman has posted a 14.46 goals-against average while making 67 saves on 275 shots faced.
St. John's and Mercer will meet for the second matchup between the two teams all time. This matchup also marks the second consecutive season the two programs will meet. In last season's meeting, the Red Storm took down the Bears, 20-16 in Queens behind a six goal performance from Nowak and a four goal showing from then Freshman Ryan Ormond.
Following Saturday's contest, the Johnnies will head back to Queens, hosting Brown on March 21. Face-off from Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
