The Red Storm will take on Saint Joseph’s on Friday before facing Villanova on Sunday
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team will travel to Pennsylvania for a two-match weekend, opening against Saint Joseph's (1–9) in the City of Brotherly Love before taking on BIG EAST foe Villanova (9–5, 1–0 BIG EAST) on Sunday.
The Red Storm enter the weekend at 9–5 overall and 2–1 in BIG EAST play following a loss to DePaul last Friday.
Alicia Gomez and Abi Redman have continued to lead St. John's in doubles, posting an 11–1 record on the No. 1 court. In singles action, Nao Kojima has stood out with a 9–2 mark, primarily competing at the No. 3 position.
Saint Joseph's enters Friday's contest in Philadelphia at 1–9 on the season. After opening the year with a win over Oral Roberts, the Hawks have dropped their last nine matches, most recently falling to Villanova on Wednesday. Friday's matchup will mark the first meeting between the two programs.
Saint Joseph's is coming off a 6–19 campaign in 2025, which included an appearance in the Atlantic 10 tournament.
Villanova enters Sunday's match riding a five-match winning streak, having won nine of its last 10 contests to improve to 9–5 overall and 1–0 in BIG EAST play. After a slow start to the season, the Wildcats have found their rhythm heading into conference competition.
A season ago, Head Coach Steve Reiniger's squad reached the BIG EAST Championship match after posting a 4–1 mark in league play before falling to Xavier.
Sunday's contest will mark the 19th all-time meeting between St. John's and Villanova, with the Red Storm holding a 16–2 advantage in the series, including wins in each of the last four matchups.
Following the two-match swing in Pennsylvania, St. John's will return to Queens on March 28 for a BIG EAST showdown against Georgetown. Match time and venue will be announced at a later date.
