Serafinko Sets Career Strikeout Record as St. John’s Tops Army, Harvard

QUEENS, N.Y. — The St. John's softball team (17-8, 1-2 BIG EAST) opened its four-game weekend at Red Storm Field on Saturday with a pair of victories, defeating Army, 7-1, in the morning before rallying past Harvard, 3-2, in the afternoon contest.
Saturday's games marked the Red Storm's first contests at Red Storm Field during the 2026 campaign after opening the season with 24 consecutive games away from the venue. St. John's made the most of its return to Queens, combining for 10 runs across the two wins.
Ana Serafinko highlighted the day with a program milestone in the opener. In the top of the second inning against Army, the senior recorded her 590th career strikeout to set a new St. John's program record, surpassing Tori Free's previous mark of 589.
Game 1: St. John's 7, Army 1
The Red Storm used a four-run third inning to pull away and secure a 7-1 victory over Army in Saturday morning's opener.
After two scoreless frames, St. John's broke through in the bottom of the third. Madison Konopka reached on an error before Jess Bianco singled to put two runners aboard. London Slade followed with an RBI single to score Konopka before Elanna Lysiak delivered a two-run double that plated Slade and Bianco. Serafinko later added an RBI single to cap the four-run inning and give the Johnnies a 4-0 lead.
St. John's extended its advantage in the fourth inning. Makenna Meadows and Konopka opened the frame with back-to-back singles before Bianco reached on a fielding error that allowed Meadows to score. Lysiak followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Konopka, and Serafinko later drove in Bianco on a fielder's choice to make it 7-0.
Army's lone run came in the sixth inning on a solo home run.
Serafinko dominated in the circle, tossing a complete game while striking out 15 batters and allowing just two hits over seven innings.
The Red Storm recorded 11 hits in the victory. Lysiak finished with two doubles and three RBIs, while Bianco, Slade and Meadows each tallied two hits. Konopka also crossed the plate twice in the contest.
Game 2: St. John's 3, Harvard 2
St. John's erased two deficits to defeat Harvard, 3-2, in Saturday afternoon's contest.
Harvard opened the scoring in the fourth inning when Nicolette Hunter lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Crimson a 1-0 lead.
The Red Storm answered in the bottom half of the inning. Elanna Lysiak drew a walk and later scored when Natasha Limbani reached on a fielding error by the Harvard first baseman, tying the game at one.
The Crimson regained the lead in the fifth inning, delivering a sacrifice fly to score and make it 2-1.
St. John's responded in the bottom of the frame when Konopka launched a solo home run to left field to even the score at two.
The Johnnies took the lead for good in the sixth inning. Lysiak tripled to begin the frame before Serafinko followed with an RBI single to score the go-ahead run.
Loreley Francia earned the victory after tossing 6.1 innings and allowing two runs on four hits while striking out four. Serafinko entered in the seventh and struck out the final two batters to record her first save of the season.
Konopka finished 2-for-2 with a home run and an RBI, while Lysiak scored twice for the Red Storm.
