St. John's is looking to win back-to-back regular season titles for the first time since 1985-86.
St. John's remained in the national polls dropping to no. 18 in the Associated Press Top 25 and no. 17 in the USA TODAY Coaches poll. The Red Storm has been ranked in the AP poll for six consecutive weeks.
The Red Storm will return to MSG, where it has won seven straight games and holds a 21-2 record over the last two seasons. In its contest at The World's Most Famous Arena, the Johnnies routed Villanova, 89-57, for their largest ever margin of victory against the Wildcats in 135 all-time meetings.
Zuby Ejiofor paved the way with a triple-double totaling 16 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists on Saturday. The senior forward became just the second St. John's player in the 21st century to register a triple-double. Ejiofor is one of two players in the BIG EAST and 24th in Division I to register a triple-double this season.
Ejiofor has done it all for Rick Pitino's team, leading the squad in scoring (15.6 PPG), rebounding (7.2 RPG), assists (3.6 APG) and blocks (1.9 BPG). The senior ranks top-10 in the BIG EAST in all four statistical categories. Last week, he was named to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award Late-Season Team.
Ian Jackson delivered one of his best performances of the season in the win over the Wildcats. The sophomore guard finished with 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the free throw line, five boards and a career-high five steals. The Bronx native became the first St. John's player to tally five or more steals in a single-game this season.
St. John's and Georgetown, two old-time BIG EAST foes, will meet for 128th time on Tuesday in a series that dates back to 1909. On New Year's Eve, the Johnnies set a new program BIG EAST record with 15 made 3-pointers en route to a 95-83 win at Georgetown.
The Hoyas visit Midtown Manhattan on a six-game losing streak dating back to Feb. 7. Georgetown is coming off a 91-84 setback at Xavier on Saturday. The 7-foot-1 center made 34 appearances for the Red Storm last season and was part of the 2025 BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament Championship team.
In the third year under Ed Cooley, the Hoyas are tied for 10th in the BIG EAST standings. Georgetown recently lost its leading scorer KJ Lewis to a season-ending injury last week. Malik Mack is the team's second leading scorer averaging 13.8 points per game.
