Red Storm Splits Series-Opening Doubleheader with Butler

St. John’s bounced back in game two
QUEENS, N.Y. (March 27, 2026) — The St. John's softball team split a doubleheader against Butler on Friday at Red Storm Field, dropping the opener, 3-2, before earning a 4-1 victory in the nightcap to hand the Bulldogs their first BIG EAST loss of the 2026 campaign.
St. John's (23-11, 4-4 BIG EAST) totaled six runs on 17 hits across the two games, with Elanna Lysiak providing the biggest swing of the day with a two-run home run in game two to go along with three hits and a run. London Slade, Jess Bianco and Ana Serafinko each recorded multi-hit performances across the doubleheader, while Serafinko drove in a pair of runs in game one and a third in the win over the Bulldogs (15-10, 7-1 BIG EAST).
In the circle, Serafinko tossed a complete game in the second matchup, limiting Butler to one run while striking out nine.
Game 1: Butler 3, St. John's 2
The Red Storm fell in a tightly contested opener, 3-2, despite a late push.
After being held scoreless through the first four innings, Butler broke through in the fourth, capitalizing on a St. John's error before executing a steal of home to take a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs added two more runs in the fifth on a two-RBI single to extend the advantage to 3-0.
St. John's responded in the bottom of the fifth inning. Madison Konopka reached on an error before Slade singled and Lysiak walked to load the bases. Serafinko followed with a two-run single to cut the deficit to 3-2.
The Red Storm threatened in the seventh as Bianco singled with one out, but Butler retired the final two batters to secure the victory.
Serafinko and Bianco recorded two hits apiece, while Slade, Lysiak and Makenna Meadows each added one of their own.
Loreley Francia pitched six innings in the circle, allowing just three hits while striking out five before Serafinko entered in the top of the seventh.
Game 2: St. John's 4, Butler 1
St. John's bounced back in the second game, using timely hitting and a strong pitching performance to earn a 4-1 win and hand Butler its first conference defeat of the season.
The Red Storm opened the scoring in the third inning. Bianco reached and scored on a single from Slade, before Serafinko added an RBI groundout to extend the lead to 2-0.
Butler answered with a run in the fifth on an RBI single to trim the deficit to 2-1, but St. John's responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning. Slade singled to lead off the frame before Lysiak launched a two-run home run to push the lead to 4-1. The deep shot marked Lysiak's third homer of the season and first since hitting a grand slam against UConn on March 8.
From there, Serafinko took control in the circle, working through traffic over the final two innings to secure the complete-game victory, her 11th win of the season. Serafinko allowed just one run while striking out nine in the victory.
