Sarah Post records RBI single as St. John’s totals eight hits

NEW YORK — The St. John's softball team fell to UConn, 4-1, in the series finale on Monday afternoon at Baker Athletics Complex.

St. John's (15-8, 1-2 BIG EAST) finished the contest with eight hits, including singles from eight different players. Sarah Post recorded the Red Storm's lone RBI of the afternoon with a run-scoring single in the sixth inning.

In the circle, Ana Serafinko worked all seven innings for the Red Storm, allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out four across 111 pitches.

UConn opened the scoring in the first inning. After a single and stolen base moved a runner into scoring position, an RBI fielder's choice allowed the Huskies to take a 1-0 lead.

The Red Storm threatened in the second inning when Elanna Lysiak singled and Ava Fierst followed with a base hit to put two runners aboard, but UConn escaped the frame to maintain the early advantage.

The Huskies extended their lead in the fourth inning with three runs. A leadoff single and stolen base started the rally before a run scored on a play that reached on an error. A walk later in the inning forced in another run and a sacrifice fly pushed the margin to 4-0.

St. John's broke through in the sixth inning. Lysiak reached after being hit by a pitch before Serafinko singled to put two runners on base. Post then lined a single to bring Lysiak home and cut the deficit to 4-1.

The Red Storm attempted to rally in the seventh when Jess Bianco and London Slade recorded back-to-back singles with one out, but UConn retired the next two batters to close out the contest.

St. John's returns home for its 2026 debut at Red Storm Field on March 12 when it hosts Iona at 2 p.m.
