St. John’s Earns Top Seed in BIG EAST Tournament for Third Straight Season

The Johnnies will face eight-seeded Villanova on Friday morning
NEW YORK – The St. John's men's tennis team will open the BIG EAST Tournament, presented by Jeep, on Friday in the quarterfinals as the No. 1 seed. The tournament is set for April 17–19 at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C.
The Red Storm will take on eighth-seeded Villanova in the quarterfinal round on Friday at 9 a.m., marking the second consecutive season the two programs will meet in the opening round of the conference tournament.
St. John's has earned the tournament's top seed for the fifth time in the last eight years, previously doing so in 2019, 2022, 2024 and 2025. Under Head Coach Dillon Pottish, the Red Storm have advanced to the championship match in six straight seasons.
The Johnnies enter the tournament with a 16-5 overall record and a perfect 4-0 mark in BIG EAST play. St. John's will close out its regular season slate on Monday against Elon before turning its attention to postseason play.
Semen Agynskyy has paced the Red Storm this season, compiling a combined 28-5 record in dual-match competition. The Northern Arizona transfer has gone 15-2 in doubles action, primarily alongside Adam Groves, and has secured 13 victories in 16 singles matches.
Radomir Tomic has also been a key contributor, posting a 14-4 singles record, including an 11-3 mark on the No. 1 court. In doubles play, the junior has teamed up with Danilo Raicevic and Sergej Zivkovic to record a 10-4 record.
Taichi Wakamatsu has added a 7-3 mark in singles competition, while Venedikt Tsirikidze has claimed six wins in eight matches.
The winner of Friday's quarterfinal matchup will advance to face either No. 4 Georgetown or No. 5 Butler in the semifinals on Saturday at 9 a.m. Sunday's championship match is also scheduled for 9 a.m.
