No. 1 St. John’s Opens BIG EAST Tournament Against No. 8 Villanova on Friday

The Red Storm are 4-0 against the Wildcats in postseason play
QUEENS, N.Y. – The No. 1 St. John's men's tennis team will begin its BIG EAST Tournament title defense on Friday, facing eighth-seeded Villanova in the quarterfinals.
First serve from the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center is scheduled for 9 a.m., with live scoring available on RedStormSports.com.
St. John's earns the tournament's top seed for the fifth time in the last eight years, previously doing so in 2019, 2022, 2024 and 2025. Under Head Coach Dillon Pottish, the Red Storm have advanced to the championship match in each of the last six seasons.
The Johnnies enter postseason play with a 16-5 overall record, including a perfect 4-0 mark in BIG EAST action.
Semen Agynskyy has led the way for St. John's this season, compiling an impressive 28-5 combined record in dual-match competition. The Northern Arizona transfer holds a 15-2 record in doubles play, primarily alongside Adam Groves and has posted a 13-3 mark in singles competition.
Radomir Tomic has also been a key contributor, recording a 14-4 singles record, including an 11-3 mark at the No. 1 position. In doubles play, the junior has teamed with Danilo Raicevic and Sergej Zivkovic to produce a 10-4 record.
Villanova enters the tournament with a 5-15 overall record and an 0-4 mark in conference play. The Wildcats have dropped their last seven matches, most recently falling to Georgetown, 6-1.
Friday's matchup marks a rematch of last season's BIG EAST quarterfinal, when the Red Storm swept Villanova, 4-0, without dropping a set. St. John's has dominated the all-time series, holding an 18-0 record against the Wildcats dating back to 2004.
The winner of Friday's quarterfinal will advance to Saturday's semifinal round to face the winner of No. 4 Georgetown and No. 5 Butler. First serve is set for 9 a.m.
