St. John’s Powers Past Butler in Regular Season Finale, 4-1

The Red Storm won every BIG EAST series for the first time since 2008
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's baseball team closed out the regular season with a 4-1 victory over Butler on Saturday to clinch a victory in all seven BIG EAST series' for the first time since 2018.
The Johnnies wrapped up the regular season with a 15-6 mark in conference play and won every series for the first time in eight years, when they went 15-3 in league competition. The Red Storm's seed in the BIG EAST Tournament will be determined based on the results around the league this afternoon.
Jon LeGrande and Adam Agresti each turned in 2-for-4 performances on the afternoon, driving in one run apiece. Agresti also crossed the plate once, while LeGrande added a double and a stolen base. Rob Mansour continued to stay hot at the plate, extending his on-base streak to 29 straight games in his 3-for-4 showing at Jack Kaiser Stadium. Six different Red Storm batters tallied at least one hit, while Cristian Bernardini and Lewis Rodriguez each logged RBI's in the winning effort.
On the mound, the Red Storm pitching staff combined for eight scoreless innings and 10 strikeouts, limiting Butler to just six hits. Ian Mowad got the start and struck out two over 3.2 shutout innings, marking his third scoreless outing against BIG EAST competition this season. Tommy Conley earned his first conference win in his BIG EAST debut this year, allowing no runs, no hits along with three strikeouts. Nick Romer and Evan Hoeckele handled the late innings, with Hoeckele securing his sixth save of the year and fourth in conference play after allowing just one run across the final two innings.
A tight pitching duel between Mowad and Butler's Brock Buckley kept the game scoreless through the first three innings. The Bulldogs (20-34, 9-12 BIG EAST) mounted a threat in the top of the fourth, placing two runners in scoring position with two outs before Conley entered and secured an out to escape the jam.
The Red Storm finally broke through in the bottom half of the fourth when Shaun McMillan ripped a double to left field and Agresti followed with an RBI single to give St. John's a 1-0 edge.
St. John's added to its lead in the seventh after Ayden Frey was plunked to begin the frame and advanced to third on a Mansour single to right. With one out, LeGrande delivered an RBI knock to left field, bringing home Frey to extend the lead, 2-0.
The Johnnies used a two-out rally in the eighth to tack on two insurance runs. Agresti opened the inning with a single and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt from Will Cowan. Bernardini then drove Cowan in and later came around to score after a Mansour single. Rodriguez posted an RBI single to push the advantage to four, 4-0.
Butler managed to scratch across a run in the ninth, but the Red Storm quickly shut the door to secure a 4-1 victory and clinch its seventh straight BIG EAST series win.
The Red Storm returns to action on Wednesday, May 20, for the BIG EAST Tournament at Prasco Park, where it will take on either Xavier or Creighton as the tournament's first or second seed. The entire tournament will be streamed on ESPN+.
