QUEENS, N.Y. – Following its historic run to the NCAA Tournament Super Regionals, the St. John's baseball team will be honored by the New York Mets at Citi Field on Friday evening.
Redshirt senior Dylan Johnson will throw out a first pitch to teammate Adam Agresti prior to the start of the Mets contest against the Atlanta Braves at 7:10 p.m. The game will air on SNY and MLB.TV.
The team and coaching staff will be recognized for winning its 11th BIG EAST Tournament title and 10th regular season crown, both of which are conference records. After earning the league's automatic bid, the Red Storm made its 39th NCAA Tournament appearance, a total that is tied for 12th most in Division I Baseball history.
The Johnnies swept the Tallahassee Regional, defeating No. 10 national seed Florida State twice and Northern Illinois to punch their ticket to the program's second ever Super Regional appearance and first since 2012.
Located less than four miles away from the St. John's University campus, Citi Field was opened by the Red Storm on March 29, 2009, as the Johnnies took on Georgetown in the first-ever game at the ballpark prior to the 2009 MLB season.
The game was played in front of 22,397 spectators, which was the seventh largest all-time regular season crowd for an NCAA baseball game at the time.
