QUEENS. N.Y. – The Los Angeles Angels selected St. John's catcher Adam Agresti in the 11th round (No. 319 overall) of the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday.
Agresti becomes the fourth Red Storm catcher to be selected in the MLB Draft since 2015. He is also the first Johnnie to be picked in the 11th round during that stretch.
The redshirt sophomore served as a cornerstone of the St. John's lineup throughout the year, becoming just the second player in program history to belt 20 home runs in a single season. The catcher's 20 long balls trailed only Jeremy Baltz, who set the program record with 24 in 2010.
The catcher finished the campaign batting .297 with 55 RBIs and 50 walks while posting a .639 slugging percentage. Agresti's 50 free passes tied Charlie Bilezikjian's 2002 mark for the second-highest single-season total in program history. A consistent power threat in the middle of the order, he helped anchor the Red Storm to an NCAA Super Regionals appearance, just the second in program history.
Agresti elevated his play on the national stage, launching three home runs during the NCAA Tournament. The Yorktown, N.Y., native's postseason performance was highlighted by a grand slam in the win over No. 10 Florida State, marking the first by a Johnnie in an NCAA Tournament game in more than two decades. He went onto be named NCAA Tallahassee Regional Most Outstanding Player.
The 6-foot-3 backstop capped off a historic campaign in Queens with a collection of postseason and weekly honors. Agresti earned ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Second Team recognition and a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team. Additionally, he earned a pair of BIG EAST Player of the Week awards and an additional appearance on the conference's weekly honor roll.
Agresti becomes the first Johnnie to be selected in the MLB Draft since Xavier Kolhosser was picked in the 13th round by the Minnesota Twins in 2024.
Throughout its storied history, the Red Storm has produced 134 MLB Draft selections and 31 players who signed professional contracts as undrafted free agents. Under ABCA/ATEC Northeast Region and BIG EAST Coach of the Year Mike Hampton, the skipper has now turned out three draft picks and three additional free agent signees during his seven seasons at the helm.
