The Red Storm continue three-game road swing at UMBC on Thursday

NEW YORK, N.Y. – St. John's women's soccer battled to a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Columbia on Sunday afternoon.

St. John's (1-2-1) and Columbia (1-0-1) came to a scoreless tie after battling it out at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium. The Red Storm held a slight 7-6 advantage in shots, while the Lions finished with a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. Both teams placed three shots on goal, with Kayla Bower and Columbia goalkeeper Samantha Mahoney each making three saves to preserve the clean sheet. Nora Basile and Juliana Dane led St. John's with two shots apiece. The result marked the Red Storm's first draw since a 1-1 tie against Butler on Oct. 22, 2025.

Dane registered two shots, including one on goal, marking her first multi-shot performance since tallying a pair at Towson on Aug. 22, 2024.

Bower has now recorded at least three saves in each of the Red Storm's first four matches of the 2026 campaign.

St. John's controlled the pace throughout the opening half, maintaining strong possession and outshooting Columbia, 5-2. The Red Storm also held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks, generating a pair of dangerous opportunities that were turned away by the Lions' defense. Basile produced the Johnnies' best chance of the half, firing a strike from the top of the box that forced the Columbia goalkeeper into a diving save.

Columbia responded with increased pressure to begin the second half, pulling even at five shots and four corner kicks apiece over the opening 15 minutes. St. John's settled back in and created several attacking opportunities behind fresh legs from Sia Bharadwaj and Erin Palmeri, while Janelle Sylvestre put an attempt on frame. On the defensive end, Julianna Bivona anchored the backline with a pair of crucial stops on Columbia breakaways over the final 25 minutes. The Lions made one final push in the closing minutes, but Bower came up with a diving save on a dangerous strike from inside the box to preserve the clean sheet and secure a scoreless draw.

The Red Storm will return to action on Thursday for a road trip to UMBC for a 7 p.m. contest at Retriever Soccer Park.
