As a Redshirt Junior (2021):
Appeared in 23 games, 17 of which were starts… hit .284 with eight RBIs… reached base at a .360 clip and slugged .299… singled, walked and scored a run against Xavier (April 10)… scored twice and drove in a run the following day against the Musketeers (April 11)… singled, walked three times and scored twice at Georgetown (April 17)… singled and drove in a run against the Hoyas (April 18)… had a run-scoring hit against Seton Hall (April 25)… picked up an RBI in a 2-for-4 effort against Creighton (May 1)… went 3-for-4 with three RBIs in Omaha the following day (May 2)… singled in three of the team’s four games against Connecticut (May 8)… went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored at Butler (May 15)… singled and drove in a run against Villanova (May 20).
As a Junior (2020):
Appeared in two games during the Red Storm’s shortened season… started the season opener at DH against Kennesaw State (Feb. 14)… made a relief appearance at California (Feb. 23).
At Notre Dame:
Made eight appearances in two seasons with the Fighting Irish, going 0-0 with a 7.11 ERA… walked 10 batters and struck out six in 6.1 innings of work… tallied a 4.50 ERA as a sophomore in 2019.
Before College:
Selected in the 35th round (1,043rd overall) by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2017 MLB Draft … a five-year standout at Shoreham-Wading River High School… rated the no. 3 overall prospect in the state of New York and the no. 2 right-handed pitching prospect by Perfect Game… tossed a Long Island record six no-hitters in high school… stuck out 295 batters in 213.0 innings, compiling 23 wins and a 1.15 career ERA in the process… 2017 Newsday Long Island Player of the Year and a two-time winner of the Carl Yastrzemski Award as Suffolk County’s top player… just the second player to win the Yastrzemski Award twice (former winners include Marcus Stroman, Steve Matz and St. John’s own Jesse Berardi)… a 2017 Third Team All-American according to Perfect Game… a four-time all-state honoree… also excelled at the dish, hitting .409 with 26 homers and 124 RBIs for his career… hit .500 as a senior… led the Wildcats to four straight league titles from 2014-17, including a county championship his senior year… also played two years of golf in high school.

Brian Jeffrey Morrell… son of Toni Jo and Brian Morrell… has two sisters, Alex and Taylor, and a brother, Michael… chose St. John’s because he felt it was a place he could grown both academically and athletically… lists his dad as the person he admires most and Max Scherzer as his favorite athlete… his grandfather, Carmine Marceno, was taken in the 10th round of the 1967 MLB Draft and played in the Dodgers organization.
