As a Redshirt Junior (2022):
Appeared in five games, all of which were starts, in an injury-shortened season… went 0-2 with 4.88 ERA… struck out 23 batters and walked eight in 24.0 innings… tied a career high by tossing 7.0 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out five batters in a no-decision against Middle Tennessee State (Feb. 18).
As a Redshirt Sophomore (2021):
Made 10 appearances, nine of which were starts… went 2-3 with a 3.15 ERA… struck out 45 batters and walked 28 in 40.0 innings of work while holding opponents to a .197 batting average… threw no wild pitches on the year… struck out eight in 6.0 innings of one-hit work against UMass Lowell (Feb. 27)… improved to 2-0 on the season by allowing three hits and no earned runs in 5.0 frames against Sacred Heart (March 6)… punched out a career-best 11 batters in 7.0 innings during a hard-luck loss to Xavier (April 10)… allowed just two hits and fanned seven during 4.1 innings of two-hit work at Butler (May 14)… tossed 4.0 shutout innings against Villanova (May 21)… allowed no earned runs over his final 8.1 innings of the season.
As a Sophomore (2020):
Made four appearances, all of which were starts, in a shortened season for the Red Storm… went 1-2 with a 6.35 ERA… named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor on Feb. 17 after dominating No. 19 Georgia Tech… threw 5.0 scoreless innings against the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta, surrendering just two hits and striking out a career-high nine batters (Feb. 16)... struck out 18 batters on the season while surrendering 11 walks in 17.0 innings of work.
As a Freshman (2019):
Made 14 appearances, eight of which were starts… went 1-3 with a 2.53 ERA… held opponents to a .204 batting average... struck out 43 and walked 26 in 42.2 innings of work… struck out five or more in a game four separate times… fanned two in 1.1 frames of one-hit relief in his collegiate debut at UCLA (Feb. 16)… made his first start at CSUN, surrendering two runs in 3.0 innings of work (March 5)… started and threw 4.0 innings of one-hit, shutout ball, striking out five and walking one at Iona (March 13)… threw 3.0 innings of one-run ball against Marist (March 19) and Fairfield (March 27), logging no-decisions in both appearances… notched his first career win with 3.0 no-hit innings against Saint Peter’s, striking out five (April 2)… logged a season-high 5.0 innings of one-run work against Albany (April 9)… registered a season-high six strikeouts and allowed one earned run in 4.0 frames at Georgetown (April 27)… made his last start of the season in the first game of a doubleheader against Princeton, throwing 3.0 shutout innings (May 4)… threw 2.1 frames of scoreless relief against Creighton (May 12)… twirled 2.2 scoreless frames in the regular season finale against Seton Hall, helping the Red Storm secure a berth in the BIG EAST Tournament (May 18)… surrendered four earned runs against Creighton, raising his ERA back above 2.00 on the season (May 24).

Ian Robert Murphy… son of Sean and Lori… has two siblings, Amber and Mike… chose St. John’s because he felt it was the best fit for him… lists his father, who played football and baseball at Gettysburg College, as the person he admires most and Chase Utley as his favorite athlete… plans to major in business and aspires to get his MBA.
