Bio
Cunningham finished his Red Storm career with 103 relief appearances, becoming the third pitcher to eclipse the century mark on the mound and ranking second all-time in program history.
As a Graduate Student (2024)
Made a team-leading 33 relief appearances … secured one save and a 1-0 record to go with a career-best 2.66 ERA … struck out 41 batters and issued just 14 walks in 40.2 innings of work … started the season with seven-straight scoreless outings, including a perfect two-inning, three-strikeout performance against Hofstra (March 8 – Game 2) and a pair of blank frames against Stony Brook (March 13) … tossed perfect inning of action with a punchout against Butler (April 21) to secure the series sweep … logged a career-high 3.1 innings of scoreless work to go with two hits allowed and three strikeouts at Xavier (April 26) … completed the Red Storm’s series victory over the Musketeers (April 28) with 1.2 blank innings and a pair of strikeouts ... earned first career save after tossing 2.1 innings against Creighton (May 3) … struck out three batters in a two-inning outing at Seton Hall (May 11) … blanked Fairfield (May 14) with two punchouts in one inning of relief … secured first win of the season following 1.1 innings of blank action against Georgetown (May 17) … made 100th career appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament opening round against Georgetown (May 22).
As a Redshirt Junior (2023):
Made 27 appearances, all out of the bullpen … pitched 27.1 innings to a 4.94 ERA and a 1-2 record … threw two hitless innings, punching out three batters against Tulane (Feb. 24) … tossed two innings without allowing a baserunner and struck out two batters against Marshall (March 5) … picked up the victory hurling 1.1 innings with one punchout against Fairfield (March 28) … struck out two in one inning of scoreless work against Iona (May 10)
As a Redshirt Sophomore (2022):
Led the team with 31 appearances, all in relief… went 2-1 with 5.27 ERA… struck out 30 batters and walked 22 in 41.0 innings… held opponents to .255 batting average… threw 2.0 perfect innings at UNCW (Feb. 20)… allowed one or fewer runs in three of his four appearances against Oregon and San Francisco (Feb. 25 and 27; March 6)… did not allow an earned run in 2.2 innings against Manhattan (March 14)… threw 1.2 shutout frames in the weekend series against Sacred Heart (March 18 and 20)… allowed zero runs in seven of his next eight appearances from March 30-April 20… picked up his first win of the season, allowing one run and striking out five batters over 2.2 innings against Butler (April 23)… improved to 2-1 on the year in game one of a doubleheader at Seton Hall (May 8)… pitched a scoreless 2.0 innings at Xavier (May 19).
As a Redshirt Freshman (2021):
Made 12 appearances, all in relief… went 1-2 with a 7.53 ERA… struck out 15 and surrendered only four walks in 14.1 innings of work… made his collegiate debut at Fordham (March 20)… struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings against Xavier (April 11)… fanned three in 2.0 scoreless frames at Georgetown (April 16)… struck out one in a nine-pitch inning against UConn (May 7)… struck out three in 2.0 innings of two-hit work at Butler (May 15).
As a Freshman (2020):
Did not see game action.
Before College:
A four-year letter winner at St. Thomas Aquinas High School… helped lead the Raiders to an 8A State Championship in 2018 and an 8A Division Championship in 2019… also played right field and was a tight end on the football team.
Personal:
Timothy Michael Cunningham… son of Pamela and Michael Cunningham… has three siblings: Andrew, Victoria and Matthew… his cousin, Kyle, played at St. John’s in 2016 and 2017 and is currently a bullpen catcher with the Colorado Rockies… extremely active in community service with organizations such as the Knights of Columbus and Boys Scouts of America… a member of the St. John’s Honors Program… chose St. John’s because he felt it was the best place to continue his baseball career… lists his parents and the people he admires most and Max Scherzer as his favorite athlete… plans to major in finance.
