Phil Wildermuth was named the head coach of the St. John's men's golf program on June 16, 2022 and is entering his second year with the program.
In his first year at the helm, Wildermuth led the Red Storm to a second place finish at the BIG EAST Championships, the program's highest since 2014.
Wildermuth is currently the assistant golf professional at Pelham Country Club in Pelham Manor, N.Y., where he has learned under the leadership of St. John's Athletics Hall of Famer and 2021 Met PGA Professional of the Year Mike Diffley. In this capacity, Wildermuth is a key part of the club's instructional staff that has a long track record of turning skilled juniors in top-flight amateur and professional players.
Prior to joining the staff at Pelham, Wildermuth spent five years working at Centennial Golf Club in Carmel, N.Y., after serving two years as a tournament coordinator with the New Mexico State University PGA Golf Management program in Las Cruces.
Since 2018, Wildermuth has served as the head coach of the Manhattan College men's golf team. Under his tutelage, several Jaspers earned individual honors, including a pair of back-to-back medalist accolades for Sam Taraian and Preston Shortell to close the Fall 2019 season before COVID shut down the Jaspers for the remainder of the academic year and greatly affected their participation in 2020-21.
