Delaware Stops St. John's, Wins 59-44

JAMAICA, N.Y. - The St. John's University women's basketball team fell to Delaware 59-44 tonight at Alumni Hall. St. John's, who falls to 3-3 on the season, was lead by 15 points each from graduate student Kim MacMillan (Toms River, N.J.) and freshman Angie Clark (Copiague, N.Y.).
Despite outscoring Delaware 15-6 over the final six minutes and tallying the final seven points of the game, the Red Storm was unable to overcome a 28-point deficit and fell to the Fighting Blue Hens.
St. John's jumped out to an early 4-0 lead one minute into the game, but Delaware respond with a 13-1 run over the next 5:15 to put the Fighting Blue Hens up to stay. Delaware would continue to widen the lead throughout the first half, taking a 37-15 lead into the break. Poor shooting from the field caused problems for the Red Storm during the first half, as they shot 14.3% (4-for-28) from the field and 10.0% (1-for-10) from behind the arc.
Delaware continued their attack in the second half, pulling out to their largest lead, 28, at the 11:50 mark of the second half. The Red Storm responded with an 8-0 run, as MacMillan hit two threes and a jumper over the next two minutes, but Delaware remained in control and scored the next four points.
Clark finished with three blocks and seven rebounds, while Kati Kurtosi (Miskolc, Hungary) added eight boards and seven points. Liz Hayes led Delaware with a game-high 17 points.
St. John's, who was held to a season-low 44 points, shot a season-low 25.4% from the field.
The Red Storm are back in action on Wednesday, December 8. Tipoff at Buffalo is scheduled for 7 pm.
