The women's golf team had a outstanding season one that will go down in St. John's history forever. They placed in the top-five in seven out of the eight events in which they participated. Their fall campaign was a success with three top- five finishes. They finished third at the Dartmouth Invitational to start the season, led by junior Jaclyn Sanders who finished third, shooting a four-over par 148. They then finished fifth at the Yale invitational and followed that up with a great performance at the Rutgers Invitational to finish third. Sanders has be a consistent force for the Red Storm, posting four of top five finishes in the season and leading the team in stroke average 79.50 and average strokes off the lead 4.0.
The Red Storm women's spring season got off to a great start with a solid performance at the Northwood Invitational, where they finished in third place. They had two top 10 finishers, sophomore Maggie Steciuk finished sixth at 17-over par 163 and Jaclyn Sanders finished seventh at 18-over par 164. They then traveled down to Reston, Virginia where they participated in the Georgetown Hoya Classic. This tournament will always be remembered in St. John's history for being the tournament that junior Jennifer Rhee made a hole in one, becoming the first women's golfer to accomplish this feat. They used her spark to go onto a fourth place finish. The Red Storm then finished third at the Boston Invitational, led by sophomore Christin Thomson who shot a final round 4-over par 76 to finish second for her first top five finish of the season. Thomson was second on the team in stroke average 80.80 and first in percentage of rounds counted 100%.
The Red Storm continued to roll as they participated in the Hofstra Invitational where they finished in first place, for their first ever team tournament win. Thomson continued her success and led the way for the Red Storm winning the individual race shooting a ten-over par 154, right behind her to finish out the top five were here four teammates. The Red Storm swept the top five to dominate the tournament. Sophomore Katie Lebel finished fifth for her first top-five finish of the year.
The St. John's women's golf team had an exceptional season, the entire team returns next season and has their sights on the 2005 BIG EAST Championship.
