Austin, Texas - Senior sprinter Shernette Davis competed in the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships representing St. John's this past week at the University of Texas.
Davis ran 23.50 in the 200 meter placing fourth in her heat, and missing the cut off for the finals on Saturday. The senior placed 19th overall, competing against some of the fastest women in the world.
This is the 14th consecutive year that St. John's has qualified for the NCAA Finals and the 39th individual that has qualified since 1991.
The 22-year-old broke three school records at the NCAA regionals in Gainesville, Fla., on May 29, including a personal best in the 200 meters of 23.08 seconds - the 10th best time in the nation at the Division I level this season - and it qualified her for the NCAA championships.
Davis is next trying out for a chance to make the Athens Olympics this summer by competing for a spot on the Jamaica National Team June 24-26 in the 100, 200 and 400 meters.
