Jamora Alves to Represent St. John’s at NCAA Track & Field National Championship

The senior will make her third appearance on the national stage in the discus on Saturday
QUEENS, N.Y. – For the third time in her storied career, St. John's track and field standout Jamora Alves will compete in the discus at the NCAA National Championship meet at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., on Saturday.
Alves will throw against the nation's best competing in a field of 24 throwers beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.

Last year, Alves placed 19th in the discus with a heave of 52.60 meters (172 feet, 7 inches) and secured her second USTFCCCA All-American Honorable Mention status. Alves made her NCAA Championship debut in Austin, Texas in 2023, where she placed 22nd in the discus.
The senior used a second-round personal-best toss of 57.56 meters (188 feet, 10 inches) in the preliminary round of the event at the East Regional meet at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track and Field Facility in Lexington, Ky., to secure her third trip to the national meet.
The toss marked the second time in as many meets Alves has broken the program and Grenada national record. At the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, she secured her ninth BIG EAST individual title, smashing a 28-year-old program record in the discus with a toss of 55.89 meters (183 feet, 4 inches).
This marks the fourth consecutive year that a Johnnie has made the national meet under the guidance of Director of Track and Field Aliann Pompey.
