Shernette Davis To Compete in NACAC Championships in Sherbrooke, Canada

Former St. John's record breaking sprinter Shernette Davis will compete for the Jamaican Under 23 team at the North American/Central American/Caribbean Athletic Association's Third Under-23 Championships at the University of Sherbrooke in Sherbrooke, Canada from July 30 to August 1. Twenty-eight countries form these regions are sending athletes between the ages of 20-22 and the Championships will include a several competitors who will be going on to the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, later in August. Davis was named to the Jamaican team after placing eighth in the 100m and fifth in the 200 meters at the Jamaican Olympic Trials in June.
During this past indoor and outdoor season Davis set 12 St. John's records from the 55m through the 200m and 4 x 200m relay. Her final school records in the 100m (11.59) and 200m (23.08) came at the NCAA Regional Championships and advanced her to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas in the 200m. She placed 19th at the NCAA Championships before her scoring in the 100m & 200m at the Jamaican Olympic trials.
"Shernette continues to attain new heights in her competitive experience", observed head coach Jim Hurt. "She has worked hard the entire year and now will compete on the international stage in Sherbrooke. We are very proud of all her accomplishments and wish her well in running for her country in Canada."
