Red Storm Women's Tennis Wins Fall Opener

Queens, N.Y. - St. John's women's tennis successfully opened the fall season with a 7-0 shutout over Queens College at the Courts at St. John's on the Queens campus. St. John's stands at 1-0, BIG EAST 0-0, while Queens College picks up its first loss of the fall season 7-1, NYCAC 6-0.
In doubles action, the Red Storm earned its first victory from Alison Adamski (Jamaica Estates, N.Y.) and Nataly Tumsevica (Riga, Latvia) as they topped Dominika Bajck and Karen Chang 8-4. Mariana Chachua (Tbilisi, Georgia) and Barbora Blahutiakova (Bratisolva, Slovakia), positioned at No. 2, took the match 8-1 over Alyssa Morra and Tina Shmulevich. No. 3 doubles Lauren Lorenzetti (Northfield, N.J.) and Ashley Harper (Millica Hill, N.J.) defeated Andrea Condur and Lavinia Voicu 8-1.
In singles play, Tumsevica led St. John's in the No. 1 position and gained a 6-2, 6-2 win over Bajck. Blahutiakova was victorious over Chang 6-1, 6-3 and so was No. 3 Chachua, who downed Morra 6-0, 6-3. Adamski swept Shmulevich 6-0, 6-0 before Lorenzetti took her match 6-3, 6-3 over Condur. In the last two singles matches, Gabija Gasiunaite (Kaunas, Lithuania) and Harper played in doubles sets and won their respective matches 8-2 each.
The Red Storm returns to the Courts on Wednesday, October 5 to host rival University of Massachusetts. Matches will start at 1 p.m.
