QUEENS, N.Y. - Head women's golf coach, Ambry Bishop, announced Tuesday, Nov. 22 that her top five recruits, Renee Cloutier, Lois Kim, Lauren Milosh, Ashley Szewzuk and Samantha Tejada, have signed National Letters of Intent to play at St. John's University.
Cloutier hails from Niceville, Fla., and will be traveling the furthest of any recruit to play with the Red Storm. She earned the American Junior Golf Association's (AJGA) Emerald Bay Classic's Championship title and took sixth at the Florida High School State Golf Tournament in 2005. In 2004, Cloutier also took championship honors at the Daily News Jr. Classic. Other accomplishments include being named to the first-team All-area in 2002, 2003 and 2004 as well as being tabbed Daily News Co-Player of the Year in 2003.
The lone New Yorker in 2006's recruiting class is Lois Kim. While competing nearby at Bayside High School in Queens, N.Y., Kim had three top-10 finishes during the 2005 season. Her sixth place finish at the AJGA's Randall Parker Shootout was her best.
Lauren Milosh and Samantha Tejada are both from Massachusetts. Milosh attends Dana Hall in Southbora, Mass. while Tejada competes for Ashland high school in Ashland, Mass. Milosh earned New England PGA's Player of the Week in 2005 and qualified for the AJGA's Richmond Junior. Tejada's best finish of 2005 came at the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association's Girls Individual Championships when she took fourth place. She also earned a spot on the Boston Globe's All-Scholastic Team in 2005.
Ashley Szewczuk, from Chalfont, Pa., has earned two championships titles while attending Lansdale Catholic. She was named champion of both the Philadelphia Jr. PGA Tournament of Champions and the Elverson Pennsylvania International Junior Golf Tour. Szewczuk came close to taking her third title at the New Jersey PGA Jr. Series Event where she took second.
"I am very excited for next season," said Bishop. "The girls coming in are accomplished junior players and I look for them to carry that over into collegiate play. They have great attitudes and discipline and I am very excited for them to be part of the St. John's Golf Program."
The women's golf team heads into spring action on March 10 at the Springlake Invitational in Springlake, Fla.
