St. John's Lacrosse Falls to #19 Delaware, 13-6

April 30, 2005, Newark, DE -- Under stormy skies on the campus of the University of Delaware, the St. John's University men's lacrosse team fell to the Blue Hens 13-6 at Rullo Stadium. The Red Storm end the 2005 season 2-11, while Delaware improves to 10-4.
St. John's was lead by freshmen Jack Rosson (Severna Park, MD) and Justin O'Donnell (Levittown, NY), who notched two goals each for the Red Storm, while Tom Michaelsen (Bethpage, NY) and Robert Gannon (Port Washington, NY) each scored a goal against the Blue Hens. Goalie Dave Saccente (Lake Grove, NY) notched a game-high 17 saves.
The Red Storm maintained possession of the ball for most of the first quarter, forcing several defensive penalties by the Blue Hens. On the other end of the field, the St. John's defensive squad showed an impressive first quarter, forcing many turnovers by the Delaware attack. At 2:52, midfielder Rosson scored a fast break goal at to pull the Red Storm ahead, 1-0.
The Blue Hens scored the opening goal in the second quarter at 14:42 by Jordan Hall against Red Storm goalie Saccente. After maintaining control behind the net, O'Donnell drove towards the goal and scored with 8:59 to take the lead, 2-1. Delaware answered back with three straight goals by Bobby West and to force the Red Storm to take a time out. Rosson scored his second goal of the game at 5:30 from the top of the crease to cut Blue Hen the lead to one until Hall answered back for his third goal of the game at 4:38 to make the score 5-3. St. John's Gannon scored at 4:05, diving across the crease to cut the lead to one at 5-4. Delaware scored two more times in the quarter by Drew Turner and Andy Hipple to increase the Blue Hen lead to three and end of the half, 7-4.
Michaelsen opened scoring two minutes into the second half, bringing the score to 7-5. The two teams exchanged possession of the ball throughout the next several minutes until Hipple put the ball in the back of the net to score the first goal of the half for Delaware.
After ending the third quarter 8-5, the Blue Hens scored two straight goals at 13:31 and 13:21 to increase the lead to five. O'Donnell answered back at 11:05 from ten feet out with a pass from Michaelsen, scoring his second goal of the game. In the closing minutes of the game, Delaware scored three goals to end the game 13-6.
The Blue Hens out shot the Red Storm, 50-27 and held the edge in groundballs, 29-28.
