Queens, NY - St. John's will-be sophomore golfer Keegan Bradley (Hopkinton, MA) hasn't even been on the collegiate amateur golf scene for a year and is already establishing himself as one of the top players in the nation. Last weekend, Bradley won handily at the Wyoming Amateur Golf Tournament on July 17 at Bell Nob Country Club in Gillette, Wyoming.
Bradley, playing out of Jackson, WY, shot a course record 68 in each of his first two rounds of the 54-hole tournament, and finished on Sunday with a 69 for a 205 total (12 under par), ten shots clear of the field.
Entering the final day of the tournament, Bradley had already built a seven-stroke lead, shooting only three bogeys over his first two rounds.
As a freshman at St. John's, Bradley tied for the team lead with Brian McArdle with two top-five finishes and a team-low 74.7 scoring average. He also finished ninth at the BIG EAST Championships, just five strokes off the lead and was the top finisher there for the Red Storm.
Winning is not new for the young man - he made a name for himself before teeing off at St. John's. He held a 76 stroke average in 21 competitive rounds at the national level and won the 2004 Lessing's AJGA Classic in Lawrence, NY, where he posted rounds of 71-71-74 for a three-round tournament total of 216.
That was good enough for Bradley to be named a Rolex Junior All-American by the American Junior Golf Association in October, establishing himself as one of the premier golfers under 20.
Bradley joined a select group of outstanding golfers who were Rolex Junior All-Americans that include PGA Tour players such as: Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, and Sergio Garcia.
