Joseph Dolezal Qualifies for U.S. Amateur Championship

Rising junior to compete at Philadelphia Country Club and Merion Golf Club on August 10-16
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – St. John's men's golfer Joseph Dolezal qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship on Monday. The rising junior finished tied for second in final qualifying at Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield, Conn.
Dolezal will now participate in the 126th U.S. Amateur Championship on August 10-16 at Philadelphia Country and Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania, the latter of which has been the host of five U.S. Open Championships. The Old Westbury, N.Y., native shot a 4-under, 67, to tie for second and earn one of six qualifying spots out of Brooklawn.
Dolezal shined on the back nine, shooting five-under, 30, over his final nine holes. The rising junior all but sealed the deal holing out from a fairway bunker to eagle the 335-yard par-4 16th. He added his third birdie of the back nine on the 17th green to become the first St. John's men's golfer to qualify for the U.S. Amateur Championships since Dylan Crowley and Pat Wilson in 2012.
The U.S. Amateur Championship is the nation's premier amateur golf tournament. The stroke play competition will take place on August 10-11 at Philadelphia Country Club. The top-64 finishes will the advance to a 64-player match play bracket to be played out at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa. from August 12-16. The winner will get an exemption into the 2027 Masters and U.S. Open and the runner-up will also garner a spot in next year's U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.
During his sophomore season with the Red Storm, Dolezal started in all 11 events posting a 73.3 stroke average, which ranked second best on the team. He won medalist honors at the Gulf Coast Collegiate Classic and went onto be named BIG EAST Golfer of the Week on Feb. 26.
