Track And Field Team Takes Second At The Kangaroo Invitational

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's track and field team was led by six first place finishes and captured a second place team finish at the Kangaroo Invitational in Akron, Ohio, Friday. The Red Storm recorded 92.5 points and finished behind host school, Akron.
Kellie Brown (Upper Darby, Pa.) won both the long jump and the triple jump with leaps of 5.67m (18'7 ¼") and 11.34m (37'2 ½"), respectively.
Blessing Egwu (Queens, N.Y.) won her sixth straight 20 lb. weight throw competition with a performance of 19.15m (62'10"). She also took third place in the shot put with a throw of 13.79m (4'3").
On the track, Alecia Sewell (Hanover, Jamaica) won the 60 meter dash, clocking in a 7.72 seconds, which qualifies her for both the BIG EAST and ECAC Championships. Kaydian Reid captured first in the 200 meter, crossing the line in 24.56 seconds.
The 4x400 meter relay team took home the gold, finishing in a time of 3:48.38, which qualifies the squad for the ECAC Championships. The relay team consisted of Thamara Cherisme (Queens, N.Y.), Reid, Thalene King (Manchestar, Jamaica) and Maxcine Foster (Westmoreland, Jamaica).
St. John's returns to the track Fri., Feb. 3 at Madison Square Garden for the Millrose Games and Sat., Feb. 4 at the New Balance Invitational at the 168th Street Armory in Manhattan.
