For the 33rd consecutive year, St. John’s track and field was represented at an NCAA Championship meet. A trio of Johnnies qualified for the East Regional at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track and Field Facility in Lexington, Ky.

For the third time in her storied career, St. John’s track and field standout Jamora Alves punched her ticket to compete in the discus at the NCAA National Championship meet at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Chinenye Josephine Onourah kicked off the meet in the 400m, finishing with a time of 54.52 seconds in the preliminary round at the University of Kentucky Track and Field Complex.

Naiara Garcia-Moreno wrapped up her sophomore season with a time of 2:06.82 in the first round of the 800-meter run.

Alves used a second-round personal-best toss of 57.56 meters (188 feet, 10 inches) in the preliminary round of the event to set a program and Grenada national record on Saturday afternoon to place third and advance to the national championship.

The senior sets new program and Grenada national record in the discus

LEXINGTON Ky.– For the third time in her storied career, St. John's track and field standout Jamora Alves punched her ticket to compete in the discus at the NCAA National Championship meet at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Alves used a second-round personal-best toss of 57.56 meters (188 feet, 10 inches) in the preliminary round of the event on Saturday afternoon to place third and advance to the national championship.

This is the second time in as many meets the senior has broken the program and Grenada national record. At the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, she secured her ninth BIG EAST individual title, smashing a 28-year-old program record in the discus with a toss of 55.89 meters (183 feet, 4 inches).

The nearly two-meter improvement secured her spot in Eugene for the third time as a Johnnie, where she was named a USTFCCCA All-America Honorable Mention selection in 2023 and 2025 in the discus.

The reigning Most Outstanding Field Performer from the conference championship meet entered the weekend ranked 14th in the East Region in the event, ultimately placing third this weekend.

Florida's Alida Van Daalen won the meet with a third-round toss of 69.31m (227 feet, 4 inches), and Miami's Calea Jackson came in second behind a heave of 58.26m (191 feet, 2 inches). Alves outlasted competitors from Auburn and LSU to round out the top five. Ava Roberts from UMBC rounded out the 12-person field advancing to Eugene with a throw of 54.37m (178 feet, 4 inches).

The 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship in Eugene, Ore., will run from June 10-13.
